How many discontinued lenses do you have?

My 85 f/1.8 is metal & very solidly built.  Good lens - no complaints.

I’m guessing all my lenses are by now discontinued, but I’m not planning on telling them.

I don't have an issue with plastic filter threads. In fact, I think they're less likely to bind, making removal difficult. Having said that, I don't know if I've ever used a filter with this lens.

EF 70-300 L isn't either

EF 16-35/4 is but not sure how long

EF 50/1.4 no longer available

EF 85/1.8 idem

EF 135/2 nope

EF 200/2.8 II for a long while

EF 24/1.4 I is not just out of production, it's also past Canon's parts support deadline

so yeah...

My gosh, the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, the first EF lens I ever bought is no longer being manufactured! I'm shocked!

I still use it sometimes. The color and contrast is great and it's super sharp in the center but the edges are very "dream like".

I just added another one.  I picked up a Canon EF 500mm f4.5 L in excellent shape.  It has had little use and I bought it cheap enough that I won't worry to much if the AF goes.

How do you like this lens?

very solid. no surprises, just very good sharpness across whole range. some vignetting below f/5.6 (for standard zoom used with landscapes - quite important aspect of optics, I'd say). not much in the way of chromatic aberations, well controled distortion, decent colour reproduction (a bit vibrant but not as nice as 16-35/4).

if you're looking for a light standard zoom, I haven't found better option for EF bayonett
