M6ii fantasy firmware.

Well, I find almost impossible Canon releasing a M7 body :-)with similar R7 feature set.

However, a M6ii paid firmware upgrade, although unlikely would be a more realistic option, it is just software.
Canon would be making money from many customers “stuck” with a now deprecated mount with  photo gear money going elsewhere but Canon.

Besides making good business sense, it would make customers happy and loyal to Canon, as a brand that has your back.

So, What features or fixes would you like to see implemented and how much are you willing to pay ?

1) better auto eye/animal/car/ etc AF

2) address the EFCS shutter shock issue

but the concern of pirating firmware would not be acceptable to them - so they'd have to release a refresh m6III body

It’s not gonna happen, but if it did I’d like support for a flash while stacking, eg an interval between images, and since it’s a dream add in camera stack processing

that might persuade me to buy the Laowa 65mm macro rather than contemplate jumping ship to eg fuji

I believe that is possible only with Digic X

Definitely.

Canon is already selling an optional $100 firmware for the R6ii and Panasonic have done it multiple times. It is doable.

My wish list

In order of priority. Willing to pay $400 maximum.

  1. Digital Teleconverter 2X and 3X just like older Powershots, by cropping, no upsampling.
  2. 4K and 1080P crop mode recording for less rolling shutter.
  3. Have the option to turn the Monitor off when in WiFi.
  4. External flash wireless control with builtin flash.
  5. Be able to add Video settings to a C dial.
  6. Aperture and Shutter priority modes for video.
  7. Make it posible to shoot an AEB sequence with just one click.
  8. Lift restrictions with Electronic shutter.
  9. Make interval shooting faster than 1 fps. I’d like to see 3, 5, 10, 15fps as well.
  10. Automatic calibration with Color Checker card.
  11. Faster, easier method for custom WB.
  12. A way to extract all the Raw burst shots either in Camera or with Canon DPP as Raw or JPEGs.

The issue is there is no EFCS.  Only fully mechanical or silent.  Do you mean add EFCS via firmware?  Then👍

By the time your M cameras die, Canon will have R replacements. Not going to be as small, but it is not as bad as people make it out to be be.

The never R mount crowd will accept R mount. Just give it time.

it is not just the small RF bodies, and the <$1000 32.5 mpxl RF bodies,

but the RF-s glass that is lacking (no 32 f1.4, no 11-22, no siggy f1.4 trio, etc)

Re: My wish list

I'll add my vote for:

  1. Make it posible to shoot an AEB sequence with just one click.
  2. Lift restrictions with Electronic shutter.

I'll not go into details here, as I always need to dive deeply into the manual when trying to figure out what can, cannot, or must be done with the electronic shutter. I remember being frustrated not having one-click AEB sequence or being able to use electronic shutter during exposure bracketing. Seems such a natural thing to expect! [Maybe I just never found the secret menu combination? Hope this works in the new R bodies...]
One thing I would find useful is some way to "script" complex menu choices in the cell phone Camera Connect utility and download into the custom function dial positions. A way to title the script and display the title in camera would be nice. [Some sort of intelligence in the app to flag menu dependencies would be helpful.]

That is already possible. But you also have to set drive mode to continuous shooting.

Yep.  When you set it to H+, it’s effectively one click.

The lack of aperture communication made the laowa unusable for me (EF version does have automatic aperture, probably less of an issue for stacking.

I’d most want preservation of individual raws when using hdr in camera, instead of just the merged jpeg

I just tried it in my M6ii, did not work.
The only way to do a complete AEB with a single push of button is using the 2sec delay.
My Panasonic Lumix gives you the option to do it by single push, multiple push or holding the button.

Holding the button or worse, multiple push is bad for camera shake, a big no for AEB.

Yes, it is.

3 shot AEB should take about 0.21 seconds. And I have to click the shutter button only once.

Re: M6ii fantasy firmware.

I think canon should update the software "picture style editor". For the rgb curve, in addition to the overall adjustment, I prefer to adjust the three red, green and blue curves separately. In this way, even Canon can compete with Fuji's film simulation.

My 2 big wishes would be for enhanced Eye AF capabilities, and for more eShutter options. The rest would be pure gravy.
