Well Rounded Camera

I've owned a lot of cameras over the years. My Canon R5 with Firmware 1.6 is extremely capable with my photo and video work.

The camera's 45 MP sensor renders a lot of cropable detail for bird photography and image stabilization is excellent. The focusing is quite accurate, fast and consistently locks on and tracks the selected bird's eye.

The low light performance is good and most of all, the photos are almost always in focus. For me, focus accuracy is the most critical criteria.

In my view, the video is stellar but I'm a still photographer that shoots some video. Canon has provided a selection to turn off the overheating shut down which perhaps was a constraint to protect their cinema products. I haven't experienced any shut downs with the "run at high temperature feature on."

Technology marches on but I believe the Canon R5 will be useful for many years into the future as cameras continue to improve. Finally, if you compare technical reviews of EF L lens to RF glass, you will find that many of the EF lens are excellent, but indeed much of the new RF glass is outstanding. Frankly I recommend the Canon R5 as an extremely compelling option, especially if you already own a fleet of quality Canon EF glass.
