New (used) lens operation
1

Hey everyone. I just bought my first camera and lens. I bought it all on eBay so I’ve got a couple questions  since i didnt get any manuals

Canon Rebel T7i DSLR

70-200mm f2.8 L IS USM

The focus ring moves smoothly but when i reach one sides maximum, i can continue to turn the ring. Is that normal?

Lastly, i can hear something moving inside continuously. It is very quiet but still audible. What is that?

Canon EOS Rebel T7 (EOS 2000D) Canon EOS Rebel T7i / EOS 800D / Kiss X9i

It's possible that you're just hearing the gyroscope spinning.

You are hearing the IS (Image Stabilization) working and yes it is normal for that ring to keep rotating once you passed the limit either way (CU or infinity)

I think that is to allow you to override the AF by manualy adjusting it.

You can download the T7i manual here, as well as other docs and software:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-rebel-t7i

I believe this is the product page for your lens, but make sure it's the right model:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/ef-70-200mm-f-2-8l-is-usm

There are lots of resources available on the Canon site.

Davpmars,

Congratulations. As your first camera and lens, I think you got a great combination.

I hope you enjoy many years taking pictures.

As others have said, you can download the manual for the camera and lens.

If they are in pdf format, you can use the search function in Adobe Acrobat to find the answer to just about any questions you have about how they operate.

Again, congratulations and happy photographing

.:-)
