What old good Fuji do you recommend to test the brand and its simulations in street photography?
1

Hello everyone, I have been wanting to try a Fuji camera for quite some time since I have never had one in my life, I have had Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Kodak, Casio.... but never a Fuji and they have always called attention for its direct simulations from the camera and that touch it gives to photography... I'm thinking of getting an x10 for its exr cmos sensor that seemed so special and went very well for that vintage photography. I had the possibility of an xf1 but due to its recurrent lens cable problem I preferred not to risk it, I would have liked an xf10 but I don't see it on the market at least affordable, and I see the xqs a little below these technically throughout. I would like it to be the size of x10, what do you advise with your experience to treat myself and enjoy photography, especially street photography? Thank you very much in advance.

The X-E3, X-H1 and the X-T2 are great bargains used.

Hi,

The X-T2 or X-T20 would be my suggestion.

I guess it is according to where you are located, but older Fuji cameras are hard to find at a reasonable price.  You might consider looking for the X-M1. It is similar to the X-E1 but there is no viewfinder. The X-E1 would be another good choice, but it is hard to find at a good price.   Both take interchangeable lenses so you can grow your system.

An X-T2 or possibly an X-T20.  The Acros black and white simulation is a lot of fun and you don't get it until that generation.

I have an X-T2 and it is a superb camera in every way. It may be an "old Fuji" but I have no plans to update. But it may be too big for street. I prefer a center viewfinder, so I like the smaller X-Txx body for that. I still have my original X-T10, but I will probably upgrade to an X-T20 eventually. My favorite lens for walking around with that camera is the 27mm f/2.8 WR.

X-T1. Great camera with WR and excellent EVF and sensor. Very affordable. Terrible video. If video interests you go X-T2.
Also the X-100 series very popular for street and the lens is included!

For street photography, small camera with small lens possibly a manual focus one using zone focus…I use an X-E2, bracket the film simulations, and use a vintage lens with manual focus, like the minolta 50 f2.0. Or even more vintage, Oly PenF lenses. A tiny package unobtrusive with very good results.

In line with what others have said, a really nice combo for street is X-T20 or X-T2 with the 27mm f2.8 pancake lens.

I’d say the main questions are (a) do you want an EVF, an OVF or just an LCD, and (b) what’s your budget?

Assuming you’re on a moderately small budget I’d start looking at the X-E2 (or even XE-1) plus 27mm mk1 (or 18mm f/2) if you want an EVF, or an X100S if you want an OVF. But by the sounds of it even they might be a bit over—a little more than an XF10 anyway.

If you’re looking at the X10 then personally I’d pay a little extra for the X20 (which is one of the most “special” digital cameras ever made if you ask me)—I tend to find images from the EXR sensors a bit soft, whereas the X-Trans is crisper. (I have the XF1 and the XQ1, and the same applies there: the XF1 is nicer to use as it’s not ridiculously small, but the XQ1 produces much nicer images.)

A great older Fuji for Street Photography is definitely the X100 series for example X100S or x100T. I did most of my street photographs with such cameras (and their successors). The focal lengh ist good for this kind of photography and the camera is unintrusive and works in silence which helps a lot. Thanks to all, it seems that almost all of you agree on the xt2-xt20 and xe1 or 2 and then there is the x100 series, what a lot of good photos you have Bielefeld06, congratulations. Here in Spain the prices start on the 650 with the xt2 with 18-55, the xt20 only with the 400e body, the complete xt10 with the 16-50mm on the 350e, xe2 with the 18-55 350e, xt100 with 15-45 450e, x100 275e, x30 320e, x20 250e, x10 190e, xq1 105e So now that you have done me the favor of narrowing down the real users that you are the ones who know in 4 or 5 the most reliable and interesting options, it is time to study differences and prices. ..Thank you so much everyone. I also tell you that apart from an xt, x100 or xe, the safest thing is that I will stay with the xq1 that I find interesting for that price I do not know if you see it that way or it is not worth it, although I would have loved the xf10 but or not there are on the market or they are through the roof and I would have liked the x10 too but I think it also gives the sensor failure and remains on paperweight... So nothing, now it's time to study and look for a good offer for one of them. ..

I have an X10.. It's ok.. It's small and cute and has a nice zoom range in a compact lens. Outdoors during the day it's ok, but indoors or at night it's not usable.

I also have an X-E3, which I got for $450, and an X-T2 which I picked up for $600.

The image quality and performance of these two is basically identical. (The T-2 and the E3 have the same sensor, the E2 is an older generation, I definitely think it's worth paying a little more for the E3) I love the output from both and have no reason to upgrade, not even to the latest models.

For the street I much prefer the X-E3, with either the 18 f2 or 35 f2. It's only slightly bigger than the X10, but the image quality and low light performance are worlds ahead.

The X-T2 is my workhorse, I must have 150,000 or 200,000 shots on it, it's a fantastic machine, but a good bit chunkier than the X-E3, so I rarely take it as a walk around.

I dipped my toe in the Fuji pool with the X100f which is a great little "street" camera. Since then, I have bought numerous Fuji lenses and two more bodies. It was however the X100f that was the catalyst that caused me to dive in head first into the Fuji pool. This is a great little camera to give you an introduction to Fuji.  This is coming from a guy who have used Nikon equipment for over 40 years.

Here are the Fuji refurbished prices. The newer cameras come with more film simulations.

Your kidding yes

In 11 years of use the x10 has never given me a problem indoors and at night.

Yes its a compact and system camera`s make things easier but it is still workable.

I would get something from the X-Pro line for street photography. Personally the X-Pro3 is the body I love to use the most at the moment.

For a real vintage feel the old X-Pro1 is a bit of a Fuji rite of passage.  It looks the part of course, has a classic look to the JPEG’s that many prefer (only otherwise found on the XE1), and with the optical finder feels like a proper, if slow camera.  The X-Pro2 is a much more capable alternative, but more expensive of course.

Enjoy the X10 though.  That was my first Fuji also and is a great fun little camera.  Do experiment with the EXR mode (plenty of info online on how to make use of the full use of the EXR sensor without being restricted to the EXR programme mode on the dial) as the extended dynamic range can get really nice results. Most smartphones these days outgun it on resolution, but it can still take a great picture.

Re: What old good Fuji do you recommend to test the brand and its simulations in street photography?

XE2S: Lovely little camera. Slower focusing and operation than newer, but fast enough with Fujicron lenses. Very nice with the slower focusing 27mm f2.8. Maybe a bit like a budget X100T that is better to handle, imho.

  • It is like a mini X Pro body, with rear moulded grip. Very comfortable to hold and grab fast.
  • The EVF has a far longer eye relief than any left EVF body made since. Not an issue for most people, but essential for some.
  • Price is far higher than the "equivalent " XT10. If you like central EVFs consider the XT10 or XT20.
  • Far faster in every way than the XE1.
  • 16MP sensor is dated now. But still great compared to the compacts you have been considering.
  • Matches well with the cheap 16-50 or should be great with the new Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. Plus the 27mm f2.8 when you want sleek and slim.

I returned to the XE2 over the X Pro 2, XT3, XE3. The XE2S is just a tiny upgrade. Either would be ideal for street.

The 23mm f2 is a great companion for a little focus speed bump over the 27mm, but the 27mm has the weight and size charm (at a much lower price for the original 27).
