ET-65III Alternatives for EF 100mm f/2

Hi,

I am looking for an ET-65III alternative for EF 100mm f/2.
Sometimes smaller hoods fit onto another lens but I couldn't find any hints yet.
I would like to add something smaller than the original if this is possible and, still maintain sufficient protection from stray/side-light.

Anyone here with a good alternative?

The hood is pretty inexpensive. You can cut one down to make it less deep.

The ET-65 is the correct hood, but the ES-65 and EW-65 also fit perfectly.

Ah, thank you very much, this is the answer I was looking for. 😀

Tried to find the 2 shorter versions but wasn't successful.
Probably will end up with the long one...

The ES-65 and EW-65 are harder to find, but they do show up on eBay.

I found an ES-one on a German used platform at a rather high price... 🥶

Are you sure? The EF 85mm and 100mm have both a snap-on lenshood, lock mechanism works by pressing the two buttons on the mount.

The 85mm and 100mm don't have a locking notch for the newer bayonet hoods. Have tried several options just a few minutes ago but no bayonet type will lock and hold

The ES-65 and EW-65 are bayonet type lenshood (twist and lock)

Edit: made a big mistake

All mentioned hoods are snap-on lenshood and should fit.

Newer bayonet type lenshoods will not fit as I mentioned above

If you already have the ET-65III hood there's nothing to stop you shaving a bit off the end with a Stanley knife as it's a soft enough plastic to let you do that. The more you shave off, the less protection from stray/side-light it gives, of course, and it's pointless to try to turn it into a petal hood as it rotates freely.

What do you consider high? There are a bunch on eBay right now for about $25-$30.

eBay ES-65

No need to buy the canon one. Usually Amazon or B&H carry third party ones that are just as good quality as the Canon ones at a fraction of the cost. I've bought JJC (in amazon) and Vello (on B+H) and both are as good as Canon's.

See e.g. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/749643-REG/Vello_LHC_EW65II_EW_65II_Lens_Hood_for.html

Thank you for this! I was looking into this very same question (but for a 85/1.8 coming my way) and had a guess these may work, but was hesitant to purchase to experiment

eBay ES-65

Well, I consider 25-30$ plus 10-16$ shipping to Germany high.

Is ES-65 III or, ES-65b the same thing as ES-65? I can have a 3rd party ET-65 for as low as 7.99€ including shipping.

No not the same, the ES-65B is a bayonet type lenshood designed for the RF 50mm F1.8 lens.

As mentioned before Bayonet type lenshoods will not fit on the EF 100mm F2 (and 85mm F1.8)

Edit:

Do own that ES-65B and a EF 50mm F1.8, the ES-65b will not fit on our EF 85mm F1.8. (have tried it)

Do mean the RF 50mm F1.8 version not the EF 50mm F1.8 as I wrote

The ES-65B also won't fit on all the EF 50mm F1.8 versions only on the RF 50mm F1.8

What about an old fashioned screw in rubber lens hood?  They're shorter and collapsible.   That is what I used on my 100 until I got the 85 1.8.  With two lenses sharing the same hood I got the ET-65III.

I have a rubber lenshood for another lens. Turns out that the rubber doesn't slide as nice into a tighter lens compartment as those plasticky ones. After a few years of use, the outer element broke off.
