M200 vs M6 II for video

It there significant difference between M200 and M6 II when it comes to Video AF and IQ? I am trying to justify $200 additional spend on the latter.

There is a pretty big difference. 4k on the M200 uses a significant crop of the sensor and the autofocus is an unusable contrast detection method.  Due to the additional crop, wide angle 4k video is pretty much impossible on the M200.

The M6 II uses the full width of the sensor for 4k and the same DPAF that is available when shooting stills. Video quality and AF from the M6 II are a lot better than the M200.

In case you are considering it, the M50/M50 II have the same video limitations as the M200.

Depending on how serious you are planning to get into video, and what focal lengths you will need, you may be better served by shooting 4k video on a smartphone.

Apart from Video, the screen of the M6ii is more flexible to use.

Yes, you get dual pixel video autofocus in 4k with the M6ii compared to contrast based (plus a severe crop) with all of the other EF-M cameras like the M200. The downside of the M6ii is that it's not as detailed in 4k as other cameras due to it "pixel binning" but I've found it to be a nice quality improvement over 1080p, in general.

One thing to take note of with 4k is that it uses a lot of file space in h.264 encoding at whatever bitrate they use. Just be ready for it with storage. None of the EF-M cameras have more efficient codecs. The only way to get around it is to use a HDMI recorder, but that's an expensive solution.

I already have M50 mk1 along with 22mF2, 15-45 and few adapted EF lenses.

I am happy with FHD video and stills with this combo.

M200 share batteries with M50 mk1 which is plus, however it lacks Flash hot shoe.
I am happy with EOS-M system in general, I need a back-up body since Canon may stop producing new ones.

Other option is M50 mkII, how much improvement is there over Mark I?

My opinion is, a back-up or second body, should be identical to the first: same battery (and a back-up charger), same layout, etc. I have a M62, and I just I got another one, for the same reason you mentioned. Since you happily have an M50, the best back-up body would be an M50 MKII... $449 refurbished at the Canon Store.

I have both EOS R and M6 mk II and actually prefer R due to ALL-I and higher bitrate.

4K from M6 ii still looks lovely.
