New Backscatter miniflash2
1

Saw the ads for it and ordered one.  This strobe has the interesting capability of essentially having an SU4 mode to trigger wirelessly (fiber-cable-lessly) off another flash.

To make this a very interesting system, Backscatter has a remote strobe muck stick - mount the miniflash2 on this stick and point it at the subject.   They also sell an IR filter that goes in front of the trigger flash (another miniflash) so that no visible light from that strobe exposes the subject.

This potentially makes snooted macro extremely easier, at least for those close to a sandy bottom.

Re: New Backscatter miniflash2

The remote control of this new miniflash is indeed exciting. I am considering to order one too. So far I am using an extra Anglerfish flash trigger for remote flash triggering...

Is it known, whether this remote control just works with a second Backscatter miniflash of the same type, or whether it will work with any other camera bound flash?

(As far as I see from the info on the homepage, the remote control works by an optical sensor "pipe" - so it may be triggered by any other flash as well?)...

Re: New Backscatter miniflash2

It would be neat if Backscatter would sell just the optical trigger pipe, I imagine we could just pop in onto the MF1.  But I do like that the MF-2 has the same battery as the MW4300.  That is really nice.

I take photos, not particularly good photos, mostly abstract photos. Yeah abstract is what I would call them, you might call them blurry.

Ah this is a good idea - maybe one can use the "pipe" to trigger the old MF1 flash...

I was aksing whether it is known, if one can trigger the MF-2 (with "pipe") with any other flash, e.g. my Z330 that would be mounted to the camera. It may work, as it seems to be just a receiver for an optical trigger...

I would imagine so, It appears to just be a a large rigid fiber optic cord (light enters one end and exits the other end) but would that mean it might trigger off of others strobes too.
