Event with M6II + 100L + 7 fps + spot focus = never missed a candid shot

I'm simply in awe of this combo  - shot candids all day with it, and > 99% keepers in over 1000 shots = incredible event portrait combo!

Imagined they put DigiX with DPAF II AF in M6 III or M50 III.... or M5 II, of course with IBIS it would be incredible combo.

Nice !  I like using spot focus.  Have been doing it for so long.

I think I will buy another M6II to stay on my 100L.

I switched to all M6II.  Sold everything else.

great refurb value

one m6III is good for me.  32 + 11-22.  I use 100L for events.  I don't think I could use another m for events

the missing m links for me were no native bright zoom with IS

I used 4 cameras at the event, m6II, RP, 6D, 7dII

I shot ~600 shots that day with the RP + RF 24-105 F4L combo and it did great for wide and long shots at a moment's notice on the fly - the versatile zoom with IS is just incredibly useful to me

Thx R2, it was good to get home and see the m6II + 100L incredible AF spot reliability

instead of using my 6d + 70-200 L, and only 20 mpxl, the cropping power of my m6II 32.5 mpxl and 160 fov 100L was lighter, quicker, and did the candid job better and saved my back all day long

those ~1000 m6II 7 fps bursts were more reliable shot to shot than my 7d2

m6II with spot focus is the most reliable AF I've ever had - thanks for your setup advise and experiences

they realized gave us too much

I have become fast on the draw with the M6II !

Am blaming the camera size, buttons, dial layout and menus.

If anyone can suggest a camera that I might be able to become faster with I sure would like to hear about it.

I like manual mode and oh yeah, I need to be able to quickly get on the ground and back up fast. M cameras are good for that !

Good stuff! I remember shooting the 100L on my M50. A whole lot of reach, stabilization, bright aperture, and not a lot of weight. Great.

I'm using the 70-200mm sports on the M6II sometimes. It's amazing how much detail you can get when you feed that little M6II with sharp and well stabilized glass. And I love have the M6II + little 32mm  on the strap being able to switch to a big lens in the bag when needed.

Good stuff! I remember shooting the 100L on my M50. A whole lot of reach, stabilization, bright aperture, and not a lot of weight. Great.

for relative stills and pedestrian motion, I'd rather shoot with my 32.5 mpxl M6II and 100 L (160 fov with that great cropping power) with its 7 fps and accurate spot focus any place in the frame using touch and drag (for compo) than my older 20 mpxl 6d with my 70 -200 F2.8 L and no IS and only good center point focus

I'm using the 70-200mm sports on the M6II sometimes.

now that is the setup for sure to use for more action than pedestrian motion

It's amazing how much detail you can get when you feed that little M6II with sharp and well stabilized glass.

yes, these lenses are not cheap IS lenses and are not subject to shutter shock at these sports speeds.  I shot my 100L at ss 1/160+ and it was razor sharp all day long

And I love have the M6II + little 32mm on the strap being able to switch to a big lens in the bag when needed.

these lenses are amazing on that 32.5 mpxl

Canon did indeed give us too much

Now you need to pay $1500 to get the 32.5 mpxl on mirrorless which tells you Canon doesn't really want that 32.5 mpxl sensor on mirrorless hanging around for less than $1500 -- greedy and so sad

Love it !

I find that lens so useful that I did buy a M6II body to put behind mine.  M6II having focus bracketing is sweet !

For auto focus I have an 11-22, 32, 56 and 100L.  That is it.

Am so spoiled.

with two m6II's, DXO PL5/6, a great 7 fps, a great spot focus, you got some great stuff there!

Thx R2, it was good to get home and see the m6II + 100L incredible AF spot reliability

Yeah, coming from so many years of (suffering from) various DSLRs’ twitchy autofocus, these kinds of keeper rates are simply astounding.

instead of using my 6d + 70-200 L, and only 20 mpxl, the cropping power of my m6II 32.5 mpxl and 160 fov 100L was lighter, quicker, and did the candid job better and saved my back all day long

So much flexibility there, and in such a manageable package!

those ~1000 m6II 7 fps bursts were more reliable shot to shot than my 7d2

Right-o. 7 fps is my favorite shooting speed too. About all I kept my 7D2 for after getting the M6ii was BIFs (because of the optical viewfinder). Otherwise the M6ii outshot it for everything else.

m6II with spot focus is the most reliable AF I've ever had

Same story here. Even with my (very) substantial investment in RF, the M6ii’s Spot AF still stands toe to toe.

thanks for your setup advise and experiences

Right back at you my friend. And I have to thank you and everyone else on the Forum for continually posting projects and photoshoots to keep me (and everyone else here) interested, and growing. It’s one h#ll of a community.

they realized gave us too much

Canon did at that. They put the best that they had into their Swan Song. Lucky us we get to keep on shooting with these beauties for as long as we want!

Vive Le’M!

I love the 100L on the m6II

If I could only have one lens, it would be the 100L

If I could only have two lenses, it would be the 100L and the 32 f1.4
