X100f and tcl

Hi all. I’ve never had an issue with the sharpness of my x100f but whenever I use my tcl I find that I sometimes miss focus. Especially if the pictures are taken indoors or in low light.

is it down to my camera technique rather than the tcl itself? Has anyone else faced a similar issue?

the image quality itself is stellar with the tcl but I just get really annoyed when I miss focus at f2.

any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What focusing mode? Have you tried bumping up the focus box size in low light?

Hi. Almost always at at-s. I do use a smaller zone box. I’ll try using the bigger one. Thanks

I remember using the X100F and the TCL and found it tended to hunt more or miss focus sometimes.

I would go with AF-S single point for the best results, increasing the box size in low r flat light will help. Make sure the camera is in Boost mode.

Thank you. I didn’t realise increase the box size would help focus speed but it makes sense.

Thanks. That confirms what I’m experiencing. Shame because I actually prefer the look from the TCL as compared to the F2 version. But it misses focus all too often and it’s really annoying.

It can make a very significant difference, the more image detail the AF is allowed to contemplate, the better - especially important in low or flat light where there is less contrast to work with. Always try to position the AF box on an area with good contrast, if the desired focus point is lacking in contrast, try to find somewhere else with better contrast on the same plane to use instead.
