m6ii, manual focus, but magnify is never centered ?

hi,

Has anyone noticed with manual focussing, when you press the 5x magnification (in my case assigned to the mf-n button) that its never centered (eg where i was focussing), its always mid way down in the lower right quadrant and I have to drag it back to the middle where i was focussing

If i do that, then turn off the camera hoping to reset it, normal magnification focus remains where it was, but when I press magnify its moved down to the lower right again.

As I do a lot of macro this is a pain as i cannot quickly check and take a picture

Is this just my camera, and more importantly is it correctable?

Thanks for any hints to solve this

The magnified focus location appears at the position where the focus box was last located.

Change to AF mode and move the focus box where you want it then switch back to MF.

I don't see that behavior with my 2 M6 Mark ii cameras or with my 2 m200 bodies. I use manual focus a lot with a couple of manual focus ultrawides and occasional shooting with vintage adapted lenses.

I programmed the asterisk button on the upper rear of my M6ii's to do focus magnification, but if looking at the screen, the M200's have gotten me in the habit of touching the magnifying glass on the screen which is much more obvious and faster!

For me the 5x and 10x focus area always comes up where I last left it in manual focus mode, unless the camera is hanging around my neck while still on, and my shirt touches the rear screen or the rocker control... Unfortunately that happens a lot and all kinds of settings can get thrown off.

I usually am shooting in manual exposure mode using Auto ISO when I shoot manual focus, if that makes any difference, or recording video.

ahh, genius Phil, I thought that had fixed it, I used af, focused in middle of screen, used magnify and it was middle of screen, went back to MF and magnify and still in middle of screen. Power off, power on, magnify back to lower right againĀ

Ah well, a partial fix, I'll just remember to leave the camera on ... hmm

Solved it, thanks for the hint Phil

I noticed its not just the magnify thats moving, the focus point moved when i powered up too

I'm using C2 settings (not M) and that gave me an idea

I went back to M , centered focus & power off/of, all was ok

I went back to C2, centered focus, stored the settings, tried again and

Thats been driving me nuts for 2 months or more

Thanks for the response Larry, problem now fixed see other answers

I used to use asterisk too, still do in some modes, but when handholding camera for macro its not easy to use the screen or the asterisk, the m-fn seems better

I got into this camera via the m100, loved that little thing, i'm sure the 200 works well too

Glad there was a solution! Yes C1 and C2 save nearly every setting in the camera --- which is great in some ways but you have to watch out a little and re-save the config any time you make the slightest change you want to 'keep'.

Those modes are great insurance for setting back to completely known configs --- in case your shirt bumps settings off, and you end up on some crazy ISO or exposure compensation and you need to quickly reset, you can flip modes back and forth to C1 and C2 and know your settings are all as you expect.
