Touch AF on M6ii while using optional evf ?

Hi all,

Can the focus point be selected using screen as touch-pad with the M6 II while using an optional EVF? I haven't found a way to do that on my M6. I doubt it makes a difference which evf is used, but mine is the tilting model, EVF-DC1.

Thanks for any knowledge on this issue.

Hi

Yes

I think it should be possible on the M6 too?  It was on the M5.  I use the EVF almost always on the M6II - but is the DC-2.

Thanks, can you remember whereabouts in the menu? My m6 doesn't say anything about it in the manual. I'm thinking of ugrading, and trying to decide between M6ii and M50ii.

On the M6 II - menu 7 - touch and drag AF settings - Enable.

Looks like you cant on the M6 mark 1 - you can on the M5 - and N6 II.

What are the differences between the Canon EOS M6 and M5? They are few enough that you can count them on one hand:

  • Optional EVF (EVF-DC1 / EVF-DC2) vs. Built-in
  • Limited touch AF point selection (rear LCD only prior to shutter release half-press or during video recording, not available when optional EVF is in use) vs. Fully featured Touch & Drag AF

Hi

Yes

I think it should be possible on the M6 too?

sorry - was wrong!

It was on the M5.

this is right

I use the EVF almost always on the M6II - but is the DC-2.

As is this.

Thanks Kevin. Good to know touch AF works on M6ii with EVF in use. The M50ii also works this way with built-in EVF.

Now I need to decide which to upgrade to. I know M6ii has twice the burst rate (with AF) of the M50ii, but 7fps is good enough for me. 24MP is enough too. Eye AF is pretty equal or maybe even a bit better on the M50ii I've heard.

So, what else? I might miss the M6ii intervalometer I guess.

wired remote support is a must have

Good point, I hate waiting while missing action.

Is that via usb? What other option is there? SMarthone app via wireless connection?

I really like the 3 control dials - missing even on the  R7.  Works very nicely for exposure control

M6ii is a powerhouse - like a M5 but on steroids in all but size

both M6 i and ii support wired remotes, no such support on m50.

M6ii also has 'Focus Bracketing' available from the menu. A nice feature to play with.
