Pixel 7 pro - 50 MP usage

Dear all,

One question: I read that the pixel 7 pro usually uses pixel binning to create a 12.5 mp image. But one source stated that when you use the 2x zoom, it uses the 48mp sensor. Is that correct? That'd mean that the 2x zoom image would be more detailed than the 1x standard image?

Thanks for any feedback,

Elmar

Re: Pixel 7 pro - 50 MP usage

Hi Elmar,

that's correct. When using RAW the 2x zoom image will result in an 12MP DNG file that is noticeably sharper than the cut out center of the 1x RAW image. On pixel level it's not as sharp as the 1x zoom though. BTW: setting 1,5x zoom or 3x zoom will both only be a centre crop version with lower MP count. Opposed to 2x zoom the 10x zoom will NOT result in 12MP RAW images.

Using JPG you can see that 2x is sharper than the other digital zoom steps in-between. So far colors in Lightroom are not correct as there is no support yet. But that is expected soon (as there is also Pixel 6 profile).

Kind regards

Thomas

Hi,

When using the PIxel 7 (not pro) 2X or 3X zoom, since the camera uses the 48 MP sensor, to give a 12 MP image (I suppose by cropping), can I  expect a good enough image quality?

Thanks
