Fairground Swings
2

Right after vacation, I went to our annual fair in late July. We had beautiful sunny weather. Here's a few photos of people on the swings. I really don't know the name of this ride.

I brought my two mirrorless cameras with me, thinking that it would be easier to handle in the hot summer.  I did enjoy the lighter weight.

Photo No. 1 - I suppose it's like flying.

Photo No. 2 - It must have been nice on this hot day.

Photo No. 3 - In the air with the cell phone...must be a great view for taking pictures.  I'm not sure what it would be like.

Photo No. 4 - The ride was short.

Photo No. 5 - But long enough to have fun.

Photo No. 6 - Ah, let's see what's on the cell phone.

Photo No. 7 - The ride is coming to an end.

Photo No. 8 - We made it.

Photo No. 9 - Lower still....

Photo No. 10 - And almost time to stop....  I hope you liked the series.

Fairground Swings - Thanks

Thanks.  If I have time, I'll show some more pictures I took at a different fair in August.  I've many other photos of similar activities.  It was a busy summer.

Fairground Swings - Thanks

Thanks.  Yes, you are right.  People often are seen with their hand-held devices.  I've started noticing the cell phones more lately.  They are being used for photography a lot.  I see that all of the time.  I'm sure the camera manufacturers are aware of that.

I keep looking at the cell phone photography aspects closely with interest.  They have a long ways to catch up with us with our attached lenses, but they are narrowing the gap.

Re: Flickering candle final

I do like that you are using video and are combining that with sound.  I have been taking more video lately.  Because I'm so picky with my composition, the mirrorless cameras are better for that (for me).  The reason is that I don't have one of those "sticks" yet and I can use the EVF.

Re: Start of Autumn.

I like your excellent photos.  The trees in your area look like what we have in Oregon (where I live).  They are just starting to turn colors.  I like your skills as a heron hunter. Yes, I have heard for a long time the Canon 7D Mark II was better for noise than the earlier Canon crop camera models.  When there's a lot of light (relatively speaking) with high shutter speeds, the noise is diminished (at least what I have observed).  But I'm not an expert on sensor noise.   I know the technical people like to discuss that; I just go by what I see.  That's a good catch of the cormorant.

I enjoy making videos, and it's something I want to do more of. The only thing is my 7D (like all older DSLRs) doesn't focus during recording, unlike modern cameras in particular canon's dual pixel AF (found in your 850d (or is it 800d?) and M50).

Dunlin,

The candle is good. You should make it last longer.

The 850D has dual pixel AF except in 4K.

Re: The luck of the fisherman

Most excellent!!!  You captured that very nicely with the fisherman in bright light.  It's a good contrast with the dark background and surroundings.  I look for situations like that too.  It's not just getting a photo of a fisherman, but looking for the very best one.  That is what you did.

I think I may try to trade my 7D for a 70D at some point; the 70D was canon's first model with dual pixel AF (and as far as I can tell the cheapest, excluding the EOS M100).
