How does the RF 100-400 perform on the R7 for bird photography

Hello! So I'm going to be getting an R7 soon for bird photography. I've been looking over my lens options and I'm choosing between the Sigma 150-600 C and the RF 100-400. The RF 100-400 seems like a great lens for the price especially at only $500 right now. The only thing I'm concerned about is its shorter focal length. I believe on the R7 crop body I would get around 640mm which should be fine for most birds, but I like taking photos of smaller birds like sparrows and warblers. For any of you who have this setup how does it perform on smaller birds? If you have to crop down a lot do you lose a lot of quality? Feel free to post some of your photos taken with the R7 + 100-400.

Love the detail on these last two.

Which software did you use to clean the high ISOs? They are looking great.

l process the RAW files with DxO Pure Raw 2, and then use Topaz Photo AI if needed to clean it up further.

good job doing it. The birds are sharp and I can<y see any noise in that ISO 3200 shot.

I got the R7 and RF 100-400 yesterday, and so far I'm really enjoying it! Here are some images I've taken over the last day or so.

Colin06;    Congratulations on the new lens, and I see you already doing very well with it.  I really like, especially, the Great Blue Heron shots, but all are nice.

Cheers.  Bramble9

An excellent shot!  I really like the R7 and RF 100-400 combo too-- nothing worth posting though.

Really nice shots.   The RF100-400 is much faster focusing than the Sigma 150-600 C with the R7.   I have both.   I got the RF 1.4X and I regularly use it along with the RF 100-400.  The RF1.4X is a expensive but worth it for me and able to provide quality images.   You get 140 to 560mm in a fast focusing and sharp lens that is also light weight and compact.   Also, it is the best I have tried for shooting fast moving subjects.
