Apple Computer (recent) no SD card slot. Will Apple SD Card reader work?

An Apple computer user says his computer model has no SD slot.

Apple sells an SD card reader. Do you use a "USB-C to SD Card Reader" in your Apple computer model to look at video files? What model?

I assume the computer would work with .MOV video files as .MOV files are associated with Apple. How about .AVI?

I use a simple generic USB sd card reader (PNY) I got free with an sd card. I use a simple usb to usb-C adapter (a few dollars) and plug it into my mac min m1 thunderbolt port. That is, you do NOT need an Apple-branded card reader. The computer recognizes the card as a drive and I can copy whatever files are on it (does not care if the files are *.mov, *.mp4. *.mxp. *.doc. *.avi, *.mkv, etc.). What video files the computer "works" with wholly depends on the software. DaVinci Resolve can work with all those video files.

That's the information I wanted for the SD card reader.

I assume that the user has the default video viewer that came with his recent Apple model (Not a Mac pro).

The default viewer for my Windows 10 is "Movies & TV'. It has read every video file format that I have come across, a few common video formats. I assume Apple computers come with a similar video default viewer that works on several common video file formats when the computer is received. I guess the Apple uses double click to play a video like the Windows 10 computer defaults but I don't know.

Interested now in .MOV and .AVI capabilities of the Apple default video viewer that came with his recent computer.

For now, only want to use whatever he happens to have working.

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus; any USB-C SD card reader will work, it doesn't have to be from Apple. VLC Media Player can play just about any file type.

Yes, if you double click it will open up the movie on whatever app is the default for opening up .mov, which is usually Quicktime Player, but the default can be changed.

not sure if QT player opens up when you click on .avi's tho.

QT player is the default (and only app) that comes with the computer, but there are plenty of free apps that can play back movies and .avi's.

QT player might have issue with unique/rare .avi codecs,  but since Macs are quite popular for video editing, there are usually workarounds or 3rd party extensions or apps that can handle. - Especially if coming from a name brand camera - as Canon and Sony offer apps to work with their devices and video formats.

When I search Quicktime the Google answers to questions mostly read as if QT has been replaced.

When I ask the user I'm getting no answers whatsoever but he is looking into how to read the SD card, and sounded very interested in the tennis doubles video.

Tennis Doubles video?

Honestly sounds like the user is a complete noob.

Quicktime Player comes standard on every new Mac.

(on PC it's a whole other story no doubt)

as for reading SD cards,  just about any USB card reader should work.  The files will show up on mounted volume on the computer.  pretty simple stuff.

I find information like the links below when I search for Quicktime. But I don't know if QT is now "on every new Mac". If so, what is going on with the information that I'm finding and my own experience below when my Quicktime for PCs came to an unexpected end?

Another

Are these and similar histories of Quicktime untrue?

I used Quicktime for my Windows PC. Several years ago there was a security issue and Apple suddenly stopped supporting Quicktime for PC. I stopped using my QT overnight. QT advertising seemed to me to disappear.

When you Google Quicktime and read similar stories, how do you account for the inconsistency with what you are saying?

dude, if you google enough, you'll find web pages saying the earth is flat

Quicktime and Quicktime player is on EVERY Macintosh that has been shipped for 25+ years. Even the most recent.  Just ask anyone who uses Macs for video.

Period.

see, here Apple even describes it on the very lates Mac OS.

Thanks, that is a very creditable reference. It also has useful links when searching - single frame viewing.

It would also solve my problem of making sure that an Apple user could do single frame viewing. That is what I used QT for, years ago.
