1

The topic for this challenge is Around the House. What does that mean? Anything in, on, or near your dwelling is eligible. (Near will be interpreted rather broadly.)

The challenge will end on Tuesday, October 30 at 23:59 EDT (GMT/UT-4).

THE RULES as usual

You may enter up to three competition images.

Please reply to the FIRST (ORIGINAL) post only if you are submitting an entry and please remember to change the Subject of your post to display your name or picture titles.

Please embed your image in the thread. As a show of courtesy, and for clarity, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't bring back any previous photos unless you discuss (refer to) them.

Any camera or time taken is eligible.

Here are some examples:

Flowers on the dining room table  (PowerShot G5X)

Irises by the mailbox at the end of the driveway (PowerShot A530)

Ready for a tea party (PowerShot A530)

Just thought I'd contribute, for the fun of it.  Nothing special, and I didn't have the camera held level (quick snapshot) but it's the only around the house picture I've taken lately.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's pictures.

These loving couple on our kitchen counter, were actually intruders in search of a place to make their nest. (SX710, at 750mm. I don't know why sometimes LR cuts off the EXIF.)

Thank you, it's nice of you to say that, but about the only credit I can take is pressing the shutter button. It truly is just a snapshot.

Great shot, especially at 750mm.
I don't own a long zoom lens, but images like this make me think about buying one.

All of my shots are this pressing buttontoo but I have few photos like this!

I like warm and lovely colors and decent background blur.

my cozy secluded corner in the world. At the crack of dawn.

I love this challenge! Even with 1 entry I can go up the podium.

I agree with you.

This camera is 10-years ago and I paid way too much for it, but have always loved it.  I have a couple of newer cameras, but this is still my favorite, even though it's getting old and newer cameras have more advanced features.

I'm not a good photographer, but pictures taken with this camera always seem to turn out pretty good.

Thanks again for your comment.

I'm Surprised

First, I wanted to say that everyone who posted a picture did a good job, but I'm surprised this thread is 3-weeks old, and only 6 people have participated or made comments. Only 5 if you discount the OP.

And, nothing could be easier. "Post an image of something around the house."

What in the world has happened to the Canon forum? Even the OP appears to have abandoned this thread.

I'm still here.  But I am still dealing with an intense personal tragedy and have not been able to give the thread the attention that it deserves.

Re: Mini-challenge #597: An apology

It's been several days past the end of the challenge and I have not done anything with it.  In addition, I seem to have picked a particularly poor topic since, with one exception, there have only been exhibits.

If Ed B would like to run the next challenge, it's his.

(I'm still trying to figure out how to put my life back together after the death of my wife in a traffic accident and don't seem to be able to run an effective challenge - so I just can't try to run another challenge right now.)

Oh, I'm not even a Canon camera owner, and the main reason I originally responded to your thread was because I thought you did a great job picking the category.

I'm so, so very sorry about your wife and pray that you'll be okay.  A photo challenge or photography, in general, pales in comparison to what you must be feeling.

What surprised me about your challenge is the fact that it was one of the most sensible challenges I've seen, on these forums.  Taking a picture of something around the house can be done by anyone and, because you picked such a good subject, I would have expected many people to contribute images.

Back in the film days and when I first "switched" to digital photography, I used Canon cameras, almost exclusively. My first digital DSLR was a brand-new Canon 10D because I already had several Canon lenses.
I also had a few Canon compact cameras, over the years, and used to post quite a bit in this forum, but that's been a while ago, and now I only look at the form occasionally, and don't usually respond to comments.
Just the same, when I saw your challenge, I was impressed and decided to post a picture.

As I said, I'm only surprised more people didn't join the challenge and wonder why?  I remember a time when a challenge like yours would have had many, many, contributions.

My God!!!

i am so very sorry to learn of this horrible outcome for her and for you, aglake. I can only imagine what you are going through. I’m sure you are numb with grief. Horribly tired through lack of sleep, and so busy with well-intentioned and sympathetic visitors.

Don’t give this forum another thought, please, until you are ready to join us again. I’m sure we all understand fully.
