Set “Detail” to 0 in Sharpening panel.

That’s it. No need to read a long blog post to say it.

Sometimes, I'm wrong.

If that was all - yes. But it isn't. Even with Detail set to "0", sharpening in LR is limited. It has to do with how a software does the de-mosaicing - or development if you so will.

Setting “Detail” to 0 in the sharpening panel will indeed prevent “worms”, but it will also prevent fine detail (very significantly so with the new 40MP files). Some sharpening “Masking” is generally a good idea to prevent unnecessarily sharpening (accentuating) the low level noise and X-Trans demosaicing artifacts, especially as the ISO rises, but with the “Detail” at 0, you aren’t getting anywhere near all of the useable fine detail out if your RAW files. If people aren’t seeing a noticeable improvement in detail with the new 40MP sensor vs. the old, that’s probably why.

Yes, silly me was 1 search away! I had looked into this twice with lots of contridication but hopefully my post here can help another, Now all I need to do is figure out how to select all the .RAF files and delete them in lightroom so I can carry on my edit with the better files.

Also its a shame the newly created DNGs don't seem to preview in windows like the RAFs did

Don’t delete the original RAFs. Copy and paste all your development settings back to the RAF and delete the DNGs if you must, you can always recreate the finished DNGs later if you want revisit your editing at a later date.

Top tip, this is what I do right before I delete the DxO dngs.
