If you want to see some underwater pics
5

Between September of 2021 and 2022 I managed to get in 101 dives, a bucket-list record for me. I did not carry a camera on one checkout dive, and on another the camera didn't work. That left me 99 dives worth of photographic material, and I made up a web page using the 'best' 99 shots.

Too much to show here, and I've posted a number of the shots here before anyway. But if you want to see some underwater pics, you can visit the web page here:

https://www.cjcphoto.net/99dives/

Shots are in chronological order with full EXIF data.   First bunch  of shots is from Roatan 2021, and then Bonaire 2022.   I used a Nikon D850 with either 16-35 or 105vr for those shots.

In July I bought a Z9 and Nauticam housing.  The last shots are from Roatan 2022 with the Z9 and 14-30 or 105s.

Re: If you want to see some underwater pics

Boy I am envious. Problem is these locations are not an option for me at the moment, considering time and money.  Anyway, due to health issues I am only allowed to do snorkeling at the moment.

But it’s always nice to look at well-taken tropical images shot with good gear. As i said in the other thread I am quite satisfied with the TG-5 and the LX100ii, but my dream snorkeling cam sadly does not exist, nor ever will be.

Cheers

I go to Roatan partly for the ease of it all, and it's not expensive either.   When I first started going there, it was a 2.5 hour ride to Houston, a short wait and another 2.5 hours to Roatan.  Easy.  Cheap, even.   The Reef House Resort I stay at is under $1000/wk, plus drinks.

What locations are better for you?

I take it you have a health issue on diving.

I've seen TG5/TG6 shots that look wonderful that I can't get with my gear.

I wonder what an ideal snorkel cam would be?   Seems like a GoPro would be pretty good for that.   Seems like one of the biggest needs there would be small size, but I don't snorkel.

Roatan sure looks inviting, and its not too small to do something out of the water.

Well, Guadeloupe would be easier to access since I am based in Switzerland. And it's mix of carbonate and volcanic island, interesting for me as a geologist.

Yes, the microscope mode and the stacking feature are incredible. Plus you get the depth and water temperature in the exif.

The TG series fits in small wholes where I couldn't point my LX100II in its housing, and its very good for those occasions where it would be inconvenient to bring the larger gear. I always take it with me for swims, as I've quite often missed some photographic opportunities being without a camera.

No size for me would be no issue. I'd love to get a LX100II as a sealed version, zoom range and closeup capability is already quite nice. Of course the lens would need to protrude, but I wouldn't mind. Probably no doors, wireless charging and file transfer, 128 GB integrated memory. Integrated LED ring light and focus stacking as in TG series. Slightly positive buoyancy.

At least a cam with the sensor size of the XZ-2, for which I also got the housing.

Cheers

True, but not convenient from where I stay, which is on a small key off Oak Ridge.  Basically you can't drive there, and even if you rent a car and park it in Oak Ridge, you have to get a boat to get there from the cay.

Sounds intriguing.

I looked up that cam - 12mp sensor, 1/1.7 inch sensor.   I think my 2014 Sony RX100 ii bested that with a 1" sensor and 20mp.    It's pretty small in a Nauticam housing.   Here are some pics from a snorkeling stop in French Polynesia.

Well, since I have the LX100II and the Meikon housing, I am already covered there. But a tough LX100II would be my ticket, since housings are somewhat cumbersome.

Considering I shot with a disposable camera underwater in 2006 at Sharm-el-Sheik I have already come a long way, so no real complaints here.
