I don't fully understand what the firmware is supposed to do. The release notes say, "Resolution of the still image has been improved at using the “MECHANICAL SHUTTER” or “E-FRONT CURTAIN SHUTTER” in on the specific conditions."

I'm interpreting that as, "Resolution of the still image has been improved when using 'MECHANICAL SHUTTER' or 'E-FRONT CURTAIN SHUTTER'." So... maybe some kind of OIS improvement that can deal with shutter shock? I don't think the lens knows what shutter option has been chosen.

Presumably it doesn't care - does the same thing regardless of shutter type - but only noticeable with some sort of mechanical shutter?

I wonder if Fuji finally noticed, fixed or at least improved the 18-55 issue where occasional shots are slightly out of focus for no obvious reason.    I've had this issue and many others on the forum have over the years.

The lack of responses in this thread is a good indication that none of the firmware updates have issues. I'll go ahead and update my X-H2S and 18-55mm lens. Thanks.

I do believe they addressed this in Ver.3.22 - perhaps they improved it further with this latest update:

"The phenomenon is fixed that in rare cases, a focal length could be displayed wrongly and/or shaking could be seen in a peripheral part of images even if a focal length and a focus are fixed."

Re: Lots of firmware updates just released . . .

I have noticed a major problem with this firmware update for the lens XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS;
Updating from Ver.3.22 to Ver.3.24 my lens started doing some really weird whirring sounds once turned on and then after some time it stops and begins again.
Everything was inaudible before doing this update and now it feels like this update just botched my lens.

After doing some googling it seems that it’s not that uncommon issue.

Any ideas what to try?
Sell the lens and buy another one with old firmware?

No problem with my 18-55 on the current firmware, in fact I feel like it’s working better with none of the occasional focus issues I noticed before.

Mine is an OG made in Japan version from 2014(?) but it had a replacement mainboard in 2019 (after the old one just died) so not sure what that tells us.

If it was me I’d send it into Fuji.  If they claim it’s normal behaviour then it shouldn’t cost you anything and you can sell it on in good conscience if you like.  If they agree there’s a problem then they ought to be able explain why it occurred only after the update.
