GH6 "Live View Boost" does not turn off.

GH6 "Live View Boost" does not turn off.

I cannot turn off "Live View Boost".

More accurately, I have it turned OFF in the menu system, but the viewfinder and screen continue to brighten the image beyond what it looks like when I snap the shot.

Does anyone have a clue about this?

Don't know if the GH6 has settings for the but maybe it does- look for settings that give you a bright preview regardless of exposure. This is "live view boost" options on the OMDS/Olympus cameras.  I can't remember on Panasonic, and in particular the GH6 being so new. I would check if that's "set" or something in some way that is causing what you are seeing.

Traditionally the setting on Panasonic cameras for this is called "Constant Preview". As far as I know, the only Boost setting on GH6 is "Dynamic Range Boost", which controls something totally different.

Hi there Ricardo,

If you had read my question more carefully, you would note that I already indicated that Live View Boost is set to OFF in the menu system.

Thanks,

Ken

Thanks Mark.

Does not turn off in M mode, or in any mode.

Have you tried it?

Re: GH6 "Live View Boost" does not turn off.

There is a Live View Boost in the menu for this camera, and it is set to OFF.

Re: GH6 "Live View Boost" does not turn off.

The Constant Preview option is for viewing DOF and blur.

Live View Boost would in any case be disabled when Constant Preview is enabled.

Thank you for this idea.

For now I'm trying to see if anyone on this forum has experienced the same thing.

Panasonic cameras in all modes do not offer a match of the exposure diallied in unless you are in full manual and have all settings dialled in and use the function constant preview

So the image looks always more or less correct even if the image is over or underexposed

This is so that you are able to compose the shot and emulates to an extent an optical viewfinder

Interceptor has this correct.

Live View Boost simply brightens the image even more than it normally does.

Constant Preview must be on if you want the monitor to show you what the image will look like when you take it. (There are a couple of setting options for constant preview as well).

Of note, Live View Boost is disabled when Constant Preview is on. (Page 567 of the manual)

Happy Shooting!

** and a late edit. I did not mean for the reference to the user manual page to be “snarky“. It’s on page 565 and 567, and I think there are about 800 pages in the GH6 manual! Cameras these days are so much more complicated than they were years ago.

I don't have a GH6 to try, but on my G80 the only way to get a "realistic" viewfinder image is in M mode (full manual exposure) with the right menu setting (see the other posts). Other modes such as P, A, S always give the "boosted" view, at least on my G80.

Re: GH6 "Live View Boost" does not turn off.

Thank you Dave & Interceptor.

This is different behavior as compared to Olympus. For Oly, the viewfinder emulates the exposure of the shot unless you have "Live View Boost" selected.

I guess this is one of the reasons Oly is considered more of a photographer's camera vs. a videographer's camera.

I find that when shooting flash, where I am going to lighten up certain elements of the shot while underexposing the full scene, having an emulation of the full scene (under) exposure is very helpful.

Oh well... I am doing a lot more video these days, so I'll get used to this. It's cool to have such a capable hybrid camera.

I especially like the way the GH6 can run continuously, thanks to the fan. It's nice to have a studio setup with the camera always running, even when not recording. It's great for interviews, music recording, etc.

Cheers,

Ken

Having the camera always trying to match the exposure on the evf/lcd is a problem

yesterday we were having a session at our club in studio conditions and Olympus and fuji users could not see a thing as their display were dark. In addition using A mode resulted in slow exposures. The shooters could only work well with continuous light.

The panasonic system is more flexible and similar to an SLR you can always frame the shot

if you really want to see the scene for what it looks like you can still do it using constant preview
