Juvenile Herring gull taking off

Here's a series of a juvenile Herring gull taking off, at Brooklands, taken with my 7D and 100-300mm lens.

Bodie Ghost Town

I don't know if I had shown you any photos from the Bodie ghost town near Mono Lake. This past July was the second time I've been there. I took so many photos, that I almost have to share. It was amazing how many pictures I could take of the same things.

Photo No. 1 - Before we arrived by car we had to take a dirt road for about 3 miles.  The town is mostly on the left side.  You all can see the mine tailings on top of the hill towards the right.

Photo No. 2 - A lot of the roofs have been repaired, so this historic ghost town can be preserved.

Photo No. 3 - The steel mill is seen in the background at the base of the hill.

Photo No. 4 - Far from the town is this cemetery.

Photo No. 5 - OK, here we go walking along.

Photo No. 6 - I would imagine that this was one of the main streets.

Photo No. 7 - Again....

Photo No. 8 - This old truck was neat.  The steel mill is on the right side.

Photo No. 9 - Here's a closeup of the mill.

Photo No. 10 - Another old truck....

Photo No. 11 - Old wagons....

Photo No. 12 - And finally we see what looks like an old ore car.  I hope you liked the series.  Do plan on visiting this, if you are in the area.  It's well worth it.

Cool...good job.  You are taking notes from Rocket.   I think it takes patience waiting for them to take off like that.

Cool photos DIg.

If you don't mind me asking a dumb question - why was the town deserted? Did something go wrong with the mine?

Thank-you.

There were actually quite a lot of gulls on and off the lake, so I didn't have too long to wait.

Bodie Ghost Town - Thanks

Thanks.  As the ore becomes harder are to get digging down deep, the costs become too expensive to mine. If the price of gold and silver shoot up, then they could revive the mine again. It's just a matter of economics.

I like the Mr. Washy license plate.  In California, you probably have cars like this.  I took this picture last weekend in Oregon.  Find me some more.  I think they are cool.

That looks like a beautiful area for photography.  My favorite photo is the second one.  I suppose the ladders are for the maintenance crew.

Yes they were pruning some plants on the lady. The Atlanta Botanical Gardens covers about thirty acres. It is a wonderful place to spend a day with a camera.

I have visited twice for three hours each visit and there is still more to see.

I attended my grandsons fall ball game this past Sunday and lets say I took to many photos. Here is a link to 115 out of the 1200 . This fast shutter is not good in my hands. I didnt even bother processing them just crop and convert to jpeg to many to do,LOlBaseball
