Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L mk III damaged?

About a month ago I purchased the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L mk III and unfortunately it fell off my desk onto a carpeted floor yesterday evening. Now I'm looking at the images to make sure everything is alright but it appears that at 35mm the lens is no longer functioning properly as backlit objects are showing a heavy bloom that wasn't previously there.

I guess I'll have to send it in for repair but if anyone has seen this before do you have any idea what could be wrong? I just want to make sure I have as much information about this as possible. I assume something knocked out of alignment.

The lens is still sharp and performs ok at 16mm.

Is this f/2.8 35mm?  Centre of frame or edge crop?

Is it still like this at f/4 and f/5.6? Looks like coma and similar to edges on say the EF 35mm F/2.0 at the edges at f/2.

If this is the centre of the frame or f/5.6 then you have an issue - if edge crop in bright contrasty light wide open on say a R5 or 5DSR, might just be within normal range of IQ.

It may well be the case. It seems that when the lens fell, this started happening. Regardless, Canon has determined that it must be repaired, for a chunk o' change but end of the day I'll be happy to have a working lens.

i see CA on all edges, including the letters on the board. that is due to extreme contrast and most lenses will do that.

If this is wide open at edges - that’s what I thought - but OP reports this as a new issue with this copy

A proper 16-35/2.8 III does not behave like this.

Well, they fixed it and it works properly now, perhaps a little bit better than before. Hard to say as I didn't have it too long before I foolishly let it roll off my desk. I'll have it for a big trip I'm going on and that's wonderful news for me. Thanks to Canon for the fast turn around and first rate work.
