At last something to look forward to: the new 56/1.2 ;-)
9

I have been using the 56/1.2 since March 2014. Used it for travel but also for portrait shoots.

Fuji X-T1, K-Road, Auckland March 2015

Fuji X-T1 Kumeu, Auckland, January 2015

Also used it for for some studio shoots:

X-T1, Auckland, August 2015

X-T1, Auckland, August 2015

But also for some travel "stuff":

X-E2 Nelson, Arizona, April 2014

X-E2 Williams, Arizona, April 2015

The lens was slow regarding autofocus, but that didn't bother me. Enough. Shot slow when possible, but got a few shots out of focus where it mattered.

And then there was this MFD: 80 (or was it 85cm??) often a good enough reason to use the 35/1.4.

But whenever I went for some extended trips, the 56/1.2 would be in the bag:

X-Pro2, Yangon, Myanmar, October 2018

X-Pro2, Yangon, October 2018

X-Pro2, Inle Lake, Myanmar, October 2018

X-T3, Su Thep, Thailand, April 2019

So really looking forward to 50cm MFD

How would shorter MFD improve your portraits? Could be useful for all other things non portraiture, no?

I often go closer. Find that the 85 or whatever cms, to be reliable and not going borderline all the time, you need to vaccilate around a metre.

And 50cms would indeed make it useful for other stuff too. 11 aperture blades also interesting.

I suppose going closer to 50cm MFD would also enhance the blur in OOF zone, no? Also the bokeh has improved in the WR version with a complete disappearance of onion rings commonly seen in Ver 1. I am told chromatic aberrations are less prominent in newer version. Will we see noisy focusing motor yet again in WR version? No one mentioned a thing about that.

Indeed. I use the 35/1.4 close up and also the 50/2. This is a big one I think as you are correct: the background blur can be controlled even more.
