Arrowhead Lake
1

While I was on vacation this past July, I went on a hike to Arrowhead Lake. This is in the Mammoth Lakes Region of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I hope you like this series.

Photo No. 1 - Before we began the hike, we stopped at Lake Mary.

Photo No. 2 - After hiking from the trailhead of the Duck Pass Trail, we stopped for a few minutes. I believe that's Lake Mary in the background.

Photo No. 3 - In the same area I see what may be a gold mine straight ahead. I heard there was one around here at or near that location.

Photo No. 4 - Zooming up a little you can see the tailings.

Photo No. 5 - Well, here we are at our destination.

Photo No. 6 - Yes, this is Arrowhead Lake.

Photo No. 7 - And another view, through some trees....

Photo No. 8 - Looking over here we see these rocks.

Photo No. 9 - There were lots of people on them.

Photo No. 10 - Ah, we have someone that wants to jump and so she does.

Photo No. 11 - Look at the expressions of the girls taking pictures. I don't think they thought that she would jump like that. Well, that's my guess.

Photo No. 12 - A digital zoom before she hits the water....

Photo No. 13 - Coming back down the trail from Arrowhead Lake, there were these horses.

Photo No 14 - Those horses could move fast, I would say three times the speed of a person or maybe even more.

Photo No. 15 - After the hike and further north from Lake Mary, here is a view of Twin Lakes (if I'm not mistaken).

Photo No. 16 - Leaving this Mammoth Lakes Region, I took this snap from the car. It shows the dry side of this mountain range. It's a good place for hiking if any of you want to try it.

This Carolina Wren had enough of the rain , found my roosting post and made good use of it drying out its feathers,

Unusual to find a nut hatch when its not inverted

Finally, another Juvenile Eastern Towhee. I noticed as Juveniles they stay up higher in the trees, compared to when their adults where they spend most of their time in low shrubs and the ground, Maybe a way of protecting themselves?

Arrowhead Lake - Thanks

Thanks.  I have a lot more photos from the vacation.  So, hang on to your couch. LOL

Next week, I'll probably show more from our trip but of a different area.  Meanwhile, I'm still taking pictures every weekend.  I'm collecting them.

But nothing is more fun than going far-away and finding different things to photograph.

Thanks.  This area is just south of Mammoth, California.

Re: Some rainy back yard birds

Those are excellent. That's neat that you have such a good area to consistently get those super good-looking photos.

Re: Some rainy back yard birds

Thanks Digi, I bought my land at the right time I paid $1000 an acre its now selling in my area for $15000 an acre so basically has went up $1000 a year but I am not selling. I have 5 acres of wood lot that surrounds my two acres of yard with a small pond, very small but holds enough water to keep the wildlife happy. Other then trails for me to bird on I let the natural  bushes, berries, flowers etc alone and the animals seem to be thriving. I do have  a bob cat on my land but so far it spots me before I spot it so no pics yet,

Re: Dreary not back yard photos

Well it didnt rain but as you can see by my EV it was dark. These arent wall hangers by any means but good example of the sticky AF of the R7. The last shot I do wonder if the rolling shutter showed up or just depth of field the camera stayed locked on the head but the talons are off.

Re: Some rainy back yard birds

That's great you were able to make a good investment.  I'm sure that large bit of land keeps you busy.  Work around a place like that must keep you young.

Re: Dreary not back yard photos

Wow...that's terrific that you were able to get so many good pictures of the bird as it started taking off in flight.

Arrowhead Lake - Thanks

Thanks.  I'm glad you noticed that too of her friends.  I think they were astonished that she would jump off like that and were happy to try and catch the action with their cell phones.
