Motion Detect?

Back in 2010 and with the delightful Canon A650, I was able to get ‘motion detect’ action using the CHDK hack added to the SD card. Camera on tripod whilst I read a book lounging in the hammock, sipping the Pina Colada.

Is there any attachment available that would enable the same triggering on my current M6 or M6MkII?

Hi Keith

With Sekob's interesting shots your motion detection came into my mind and thought maybe this ML hack on EOS M is handy for you. Though other M cameras haven't been hacked afaik.

Any help, critique and comment is highly appreciated. More frank, the better.

Unfortunately, such a feature on the M line is only possible on EOS M because of the Magic Lantern. A kind of camera trap with a short-range race.

I put the camera on a tripod, set up the scene, connect the powerbank (USB-fake) and leave it for a few hours. Then I harvest. The system works stably.

I tried shooting on the M6(2) via remote shooting via wi-fi or bluetooth. But I must say, the system is less stable. At the crucial moment, the connection breaks, you have to take the camera in your hands and restore the settings.

Taken today with Motion Detect. EOS M + ttartisan 50mm

Sad to say, I had not given any further thought to this. Yet it is a feature that offers truly amazing shot potential. Quite astonishing that it is not a feature offered in our more recent models.

I’ve still kept a couple of the ‘not so good’ as a reminder of those fun times with CHDK, and the Canon A650IS. And if I came across such a feature again, shutter speed with those sort of shots, is paramount.
