Sorry Isobel can’t find any info on my phone or internet, can you give us details of the settings you were using. Looks like some sort of volume symbol.

I actually found out that it is an indication of voice controlled shutter, perhaps even a suggestion.

This evening I wanted to take a photo in a very dark room and that simple popped up - perhaps to remind me to use voice control - it doesn't come on all the time, but I know it's related to using you voice to activate the shutter.

This is the photo I took in a very dark room - I had to use minus exposure compensation to make the photo look like the ambient light. The reflections in the windows across the room are from under cabinet LED lights very far away from the windows.

The photo of the puzzle was lightened by the phone.  I am amazed at the colors it produced.  The second image of the puzzle was lightened with Photoshop.

Of course, I could have not used exposure compensation in the room and this is how the camera saw it: (No in camera exposure compensation).

The camera in this phone (The Samsung S22+) is excellent.

Yep, you can use the word "shoot" or "cheese" or "smile" and I think there's one more word (it's "capture") to activate the shutter button. Very very handy too as it ensures that you're not gonna shake the camera or phone and blur the image. I use it all the time. And it works well as a remote shutter release too!

We just had our 59th wedding anniversary this past week and I set my Samsung on the table in a rather darkened restaurant and simply spoke any one of those words I listed above all throughout our dinner and I have a complete album of unposed 59th anniversary pictures that would not have worked otherwise.

Regards, Jim

Re: What does this Samsung camera icon mean?

Isabel, have you tried the "remaster" function in your camera program? That often works very well for underexposed pictures as you show with your puzzle picture here. It's found after you hit the three dots in the lower right corner with your picture displayed. Hit the three dots and about the second or third item there says remaster and it will analyze your photograph and it will put in some effects that it thinks it needs and give you the option to keep/save, or copy it or to delete it. Just another quick and easy way to work on some pics. Give that a try let us know how that works.

Regards, Jim
