Samsung NX1 HDMI Output at 4K
3

So just making this thread as a bit of an informational post to discuss something I struggled to find concrete information on. The NX1 can output up to 4K, but as some of you may be aware, when you select 4096x2160 or 3840x2160, the camera will say shooting modes disabled, and you can only review photos and footage already shot. Switching to 1080p output allows you to connect to an external device while still being able to record 4K in camera.

Now if you want to have a 4K output of what the camera sees, you need to select clean out. This may or may not work with certain devices, whether TVs, recorders, or capture devices. To do this, first go into the camera menu, with no HDMI cable plugged in, and set HDMI output to NTSC and either 4096x2160 or 3840x2160 *CLEAN OUT*. Exit the menu. Now when you connect an HDMI cable to a compatible device, it should receive a 4K signal from the camera, and the camera should automatically switch to video standby mode. You cannot record in camera when using clean out 4K. I tested this to work with an Atomos Ninja V external recorder. Unfortunately I never got it working at 4K with my Elgato Camlink, but it looks good at 1080p still.

I just wanted to share my findings in case anyone here was considering picking up a Ninja V or had another use case for 4K output. Maybe this was already common knowledge, but I couldn't find many discussions on it so hopefully this is helpful to someone.

Re: Samsung NX1 HDMI Output at 4K

I successfully connected my NX500 with the Blue  AVS capture card  and also changed HDMI to NTSC and 1080p, but the quality in OBS is still very poor.  Resolution is fine, but the out comes out very grainy.  Any thoughts or suggestions?
