Wow, I had no idea the 7 could do that. Very nice! That makes me want to try the filter on my 7i.

The original DiMage 7 had a weak infrared blocking filter .

The plus side is pictures like this are possible , the downside was that IR light could cause bloat on some images .

Minolta cured that by adding a hot-mirror ( an infrared blocking filter ) in front of the sensor to prevent this .

The downside being that little if any IR light gets to the sensor and prevents you taking these pictures .

Send Wayne a P.M to confirm as I think he's tried one unsuccessfully .

Or if you do already have an IR pass filter , give it a whirl and let us know .

A DiMage 7i will not perform as well for infrared as a DiMage 7.  The 7 has a very weak heat mirror (IR blocking filter).  The 7i has a much stronger heat mirror.  That's what the "i" meant!  You will be unable to hand-hold that 7i.  Exposure times will be very long.    Just get a DiMage 7.

Also, to avoid vignetting at the wide angle settings,  use a 49-62mm step-up ring and a 62mm filter.
