Manual Focus w/M50

Can anyone tell me whether the magnification setting (5x,10x) on either version of the M50 will stay set from one exposure to the next (single mode)?

My unlamented M5 would not do that, requiring thumb gymnastics to punch that button for each and every shot.

Many were the ways that wretched little camera could cramp my right hand before I got hip to a grip.

M50 Mark II: No

The M50 Mark II switches back to 1x when you expose. So, no.

Regards,

Alan

Thanks, Alan

Then I'll stick with my E-M10 for mirrorless and just use adapted MF lenses.

Re: M50 Mark II: No

Not only that, but mine (M5) meters exposure differently when it's in the magnified view. I've never drilled into this issue (though I might now), but I guess what it's doing is metering for the magnified portion of the image. That of course may compromise shadows or highlights in the image as a whole, depending on the variation of brightness across the whole subject.

So my method is

  1. Press magnify icon
  2. Focus
  3. Press magnify icon again to turn the feature back off
  4. Take the picture
  5. Repeat

Yes it's a pain. But TBH I don't use manual focus a great deal.

I do manual focusing a lot.

I have the M-fn button that is right next to the shutter button programmed to magnify and it is very easy to hit it after a shot.

No thumb needed for this.

Only happen when I'm using spot metering mode. Other metering modes have the same exposure.
