Car Trip Photos
2

I don't know if this would be of interest of you all, but I thought I would show you all some photos of our trip this past summer from a moving car. I had to have a very high shutter speed and in a lot of ways it was difficult. But some of them turned out OK.

Photo No. 1 - Here's some ranch land seen along Highway 5 in Southern Oregon.  It's the dry season now, which is why most of the grass is brown.

Photo No. 2 - Another...in Southern Oregon.

Photo No. 3 - A photo of Mt. Shasta in Northern California.  This was taken through the windshield.

Photo No. 4 - This is the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, just south of Carson City, Nevada.

Photo No. 5 - Another....

Photo No. 6 - We arrived at Mono Lake.

Photo No. 7 - Also we saw the silver and gold town of Bodie, California.  The last three miles of the road was not paved.  You can see the mine tailings on the upper right side.

Photo No. 8 - This was taken between Carson City and Reno, Nevada.  This is Slide Mountain.

Photo No. 9 - Northwest of Susanville, California we saw sections of burnt forests.  In this photo not all of these trees were destroyed.  Some survived, as you can see there's still some green towards the top.

Photo No. 10 - I think this must have been taken in Southern Oregon again.  I hope you liked seeing a few pictures from the car.  It was a long fun trip.

Wow...cool...I like your egrets.  Is that a cattle egret?  It looks like the ones I saw at our zoo.  The planes look great with the clouds and mountains in the background.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the lens was one of the best purchases I have made. I got it on Ebay for a very low price.

A couple of cloud pictures I took this afternoon. I thought I'd try out my 50mm f/1.8 at f/9.

I used evaluative or matrix metering on the first, and center-weighted average on the second. Notice how the foliage has turned almost silhouette.

With F9 it looks like you got the depth of field you wanted.  Good job!  That's great you are experimenting some.

Re: Car Trip Photos

Hi Digirame,

Those are excellent photos from a car, it must be hard composing photos on the move and then capturing without movement.

Thanks.  Yes, it is hard.  Everyone should try it (as a passenger).  I push the shutter and then check to see what I got.  It's surprising how good some can turn out, but a lot of them are no good.  It's hit or miss.

Re: Down in Dorset

That old house (built in 1620) must really look neat inside. That's a great looking photo of the bird in flight. I like the three flowers, seeing that in that way. I like seeing the last picture too. It's our way of visiting England to see what it's like.

Re: Down in Dorset

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

The house is now used for wedding venues, some of the land is farmed and some is used for camping/RVing.

The Buzzards were once an endangered bird but are now making a recovery around the UK.

I'm not sure of the wildflower species, I've not seen an all green wildflower before, just thought it made for an unusual picture.

The last picture is of the Jurassic coast, as explained in wikipedia.>>

"The site spans 185 million years of geological history, coastal erosion having exposed an almost continuous sequence of rock formation covering the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. At different times, this area has been desert, shallow tropical sea and marsh, and the fossilised remains of the various creatures that lived here have been preserved in the rocks."

If your lucky you can walk the beaches around here and find the fossils.

More Sunset Photos - Thanks

Thanks.  The second photo is an optical zoom of the first photo.  You can see that the clouds are pretty much the same.  That Canon 18-135mm lens allows for this versatility.
