G9X II discontinued

Lately I have been using my G9X as the camera I put in my pocket and take when I go out for a run. Not sure if that has contributed to it having some lens flare, at least more than I remembered it as having. Anyway, I have been thinking for a long time of getting a G9X II. Every now on then looking at them for a price break on the on-line retailers. Guess I waited too long. The BHPhoto websire says they are discontinued now.  (although I have seen some posts that BHPhoto sometimes just say discontinued when they simply have run out of stock and a new shipment has not come in)

Oh well. I found a used one. It can't possibly have been treated as badly as my G9X and that one has kept on working.

I've been saying for some time, now is the time to buy point and shoots before they're no longer available. That time has come and gone for new stock for most Canon compact cameras. Panasonic still has some, but who knows for how long. If you expect to continue the use of these cameras shop now!

I think that should be the general rule for any of the non RF Canons.

if you want them to continue, buy them.

I strongly believe that market is over. Even with the resurgence of film cameras, I haven't seen any new production. The demand will never be strong enough to continue manufacturing. RIP point and shoots.......

"...It has been discontinued for over 5 months"

that is really interesting.    In late June before I went on my vacation I was on the BHPhoto website picking between getting a G9XII and a G7XIII and they G9Xii was still in stock there.    It must have become such a slow seller it took them that long to sell off the stock they had.

My G7X was normal, but the G7XIII is really weird, but that is a topic for another thread.

got my new old G9XII
1

so I got my "used" G9XII from BHphoto

Looks to be brand new. Original packaging. Except for having a big "used" sticker on the box.

Looks great.

And it is in Japanese.

On my old G9X, first item under menu 3 is languages and 21 are offered. On the Japanese G9XII, only two oriental languages offered.

Mostly things are run off off touchscreen and icons, so that is kind of language independent  Seems like the filenames, when Imported to my computer are like IMG_0110.JPG, etc. So I think that part is okay.    You know, I think this Canon camera with Japanese menus isn't going to be any harder to operate than my Sony RX100II camera with English menus.  At least I can find things I am looking in the menu on by G9X and do the match over on the G9XII.   On the Sony cameras, so often I can' t find things in the first place.

Is G7 X III worth the price difference over II?

"Is G7 X III worth the price difference over II?"

What I found a bit frustrating with my G7X was the slow AF in some situations.  So I went with the G7XIII to get faster and more reliable AF.  So I think the price difference was worth it for me.

Re: got my new old G9XII

Interesting about the languages. Too bad firmware wasn't available to change that.

Fun little cameras.  The three closest Best Buys to me have all run out of point and shoots long ago. Their camera sections are shrinking fast. Not a good sign.

I think I touched on this in a different thread but how are people expected to buy things that the stores aren't selling.

I am in Europe and the non specialist stores are selling EOS M and Rebels and thats about it.
