The best overall compact in it’s class

The G5X Mark ii, is in my opinion, the best compact on the market.

I made a point of spending time with Canon and Sony options, and chose the Canon for it’s user experience. EV comp dial, Front Ring that has clicks so offers a better indication when zooming, Thumb and Handgrip that is amazingly well thought out, better button placement.

And to top it off, a brighter lens and better thought out zoom range.

An area of weakness is the AF but it hasn’t been much of an issue for me.

Looks like you're very fond of the long end of the zoom.

How is it doing at the wide end?

Yeah, I enjoy 50mm and longer focal lengths.

The G5X ii is impressive at all focal lengths. I would have been happy with lesser iq, as this is only used as a walk around for visual exercises. The iPhone got in the way, with its less controls, touchscreen only and the 13 Pro and it’s 3 Camera setup, which jumps alot between ultra wide and whichever other camera is being used, on close up images. Going with 3rd Party Camera Apps is laggy and makes capturing the moment more tricky.

I’m very interested in the G5 X Mark II. Since its release, has it ever gone on sale? Say on black Friday or other times?

Yes, it has multiple times, but due to the current worldwide economic situation I would not count on any bigger discounts in the upcoming year or so. It might rather go unavailable if some essential parts are required for the big MILCs.

Excellent review btw with which I agree. Despite the slightly slow focus performance which I don’t care about in this camera, it is a pretty excellent tool with great IQ, and some fun features.

I got a good deal on a Canon refurbished unit a few months ago.  I can't remember if I subscribed for notifications or just obsessively checked. No issues.
