canon SL2

No matter where I have setting pictures are a bit blurry when taking through a picture window and taking wildlife. Use the Tamron SP 150-600 lens and or the canon 55-250 lens. What are the best settings so main object in picture is not  a bit blurry. I take in the mornings and during day..Im about to give up.

Have tried manual,AV ,P . you name it.

Thanks

Re: canon SL2

I have used both the Canon 55-250mm and Tamron 150-600mm lenses with three Canon DSLR cameras.  I have found that with the Tamron 150-600mm lens at the longer focal lengths that if I don't keep the camera/lens steady even at high shutter speeds, the images can appear a little soft.

I use autoISO in manual mode stop, down the lens some to something like F9, and keep the shutter speed relatively high if the lighting permits.  If you are not using a tripod consider bracing the camera/lenses to see if that helps too.  If all of that still does not give you better results, consider testing the lenses with another camera.

Taking photos through a window can be problematic to the autofocus system.  Probably best to upload some sample photos of the issue so we can give you a better assessment.

Even outside pictures not that great. I'll keep reading up on things. Very frustrating when you have a once and a lifetime shot of wildlife and its blurry or Soft....

That's a good point about the "picture window".  I was reading his message too fast and missed that the first time.  Although taking pictures through a window can sometimes be OK, that's something I avoid.

Re: canon SL2

I had a T5 and found that once I got better lenses I had problems with auto focus.  In live you the focus was perfect on the T5 because it uses dual pixel autofocus in that mode.  Through the viewfinder it never got perfect focus on certain lenses.  As soon as I upgraded to the 6DMII everything changed.  The autofocus system was better, and if it wasn't achieving perfect focus the better cameras have autofocus micro adjustment.  That's probably what you need and the SL2 likely does not have it.    Consider upgrading the body to a 7D or 7DMII or if you're willing to make the investment and R7.  Don't give up.

Or try one of the newer Canon T7i (800D) or Canon T8i (850D) cameras.  I found the Canon M50 MKII performs pretty well also.  I don't have problems where they are a bit blurry unless it's user error (like depth of field, shooting through a dirty window or motion blur etc.).

Here's one out of thousands of pictures I've taken with the Canon T7i (800D) camera.  I liked it so much that I bought three of them.

One thing that's tough with using telephoto lenses is getting the depth of field you want.  You might want to read about that.  Where we place the focus can determine that outcome.  There are many other things to consider.

Have you tried another camera?  Did you get the same results?

I have a T7i and converted it to astrophotography by removing the IR filter.   I do recall before the conversion that it's autofocus performed well with all of my lenses including the 100-400 4.5-5.6 L.

Yes, you do have one.  I now see it at the very bottom of your gear list.

I wonder if the OP was having depth of field issues.  Telephoto lenses can be difficult if a person doesn't have a lot of experience with them.  I like focusing in different spots to help me achieve the results that I want.

Re: canon SL2

Unless you post sample pics, hard to help you.

It might be motion blur, out of focus …

Don’ forget post the EXIF info with samples

Hey, it's a wild life.   I got thousands of pictures of birds.  I thought you all might want to see something else.

The OP has not been back.  Later I thought about it.  It's my guess that the OP was having depth of field issues.  The depth of field sometimes can only be a few inches.

Like in this photo, the tail feather are not sharp.  It shows how shallow the depth of field can be.
