Re: Do lenses die?

It is unlikely to be both lenses - as the G85 I am using has not been dropped and is pretty new.

My G7 is 5 years old. Yes it may have been dropped. It has done around 60 video shoots.

Suddenly the auto focus hunting is terrible. On every mode.

So I did a test and put the camera in manual focus. Still hunts, albeit less.

I normally shoot in a car moving along.... No issues for 5 years,

Camera man shop bloke says - cameras die, life span... sensor goes, board goes etc.

Yep cameras die.
After 7 years, my first GX8 started mis-focusing. It started slowly gradually getting worse. The kicker was when shooting ancient Roman sculptures with the 12-40mm. It would snap to focus, as usual, but as soon as an pressed the shutter button would pop OUT of focus. Lots of blurry shots. Luckily I had a couple of manual lenses, but what a pain.

There’s no other camera like the GX8, so I managed to find and buy a brand new one.

Shall I get another G7?

Why not use the opportunity to upgrade and get a G90/95? Or even a G9?

Good to know!!!!!

Had no idea they existed

I have a G85 already which at the moment is working G95 is not that much better.

Besides Ideally I need 12mm and I need something light - something that puts less pressure on the window mounts.

Why do you think it failed? All I can think is IBIS.
