*** Mini Challenge #707 - BIG! ***
2

Thanks again to Irv for the first place last time around.

This mini challenge is to capture something BIG.

Now, big can be physical, it can be emotional or conceptual, etc. It can be a big object, a big problem, a big challenge, a big impact, big difficulty, a big idea... Some kind of big. Even a big failure!

You get the (big) picture!   Big in some respect, maybe even more than one.

The challenge will end on Wednesday, August 10 at 9pm Central US Time (Thursday, August 11 at 2:00 AM UTC, if I did the math correctly).

Examples in a following post.

Challenge Rules:

The host gives you a topic and you post up to three images that fit. Remember, it's all about fun, sharing, and learning. Any picture you have taken in person is eligible, regardless of the time taken, camera, or post-processing used. The host chooses the winners and honorable mentions and posts those in a new thread. The host's decision is final. The winner of this challenge then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner of that one, and so on it goes. The winner of this challenge will have 48 hours to post the next challenge. If that doesn't happen, 2nd place will have 24 hours to do so, then it's up to 3rd place.

Submission Posting Guidelines:

Post each one of your three submissions in its own reply to this post. Give each post a unique Subject, please. It is best to embed an image in its post rather than linking to somewhere else. Feel free to post photos "for exhibition only" if you want to share more than three, or won't be available to host the next challenge. Try to preserve the EXIF please, so we can see which camera, lens, and settings were used.

Comment Posting Guidelines:

Feel free to post comments on the images or ask for comments. Don't hesitate to click on the green "Like" thumb on the top right of the post, so we know which images were most popular. Likes are appreciated as much as constructive criticism is. The host can make up his or her own mind without being influenced by that. I wish you all "good luck" and let's see some interesting pics.

Examples of BIG, in one way or another...

BIG chill - At least for us here in the southern US

BIG color - Primary, but BIG

BIG damage - Well, actually not, but it looks like it. Just a couple of canopies mangled by a clear-sky gust of wind. No other serious damage, but it looks BIG!!

BIG destruction - This time it's real. This is a small part of the aftermath of the Rock House fire in southwest Texas, March-April 2011.

BIG blue eyes - Charmin at her most magnificent

BIG flavor - Hardly an art shot, but you can't beat Blue Bell ice cream when the heat is on (nor in the dead of winter, for that matter!)

BIG gentle eyes - This little calf was with his (her?) herd right beside the road as we drove slowly by. We rolled the window down and he (she?) came up to check us out.

BIG iron (and steel, not to mention August heat!) - Part of Union-Pacific Railroad's 2014 "Big Boy" steam locomotive

BIG problem? This goose appeared to be looking for a home. Kinda doubt the ones on this pole will quite accommodate...

BIG rack - At least it looks big to me. This was taken in very poor light one morning at Rocky Mountain National Park.

BIG shock - I was eating some boiled-in-the-shell salted peanuts from the bag and thought one of them was fuzzy & molded. A big shock when that "peanut" had fur AND legs!! It was LONG dead, but gave me a shock anyway. I guess this poor critter was accidentally bagged with the peanuts.

BIG storm - Over the southwest Texas landscape

BIG sweetheart - Osa the ranch dog, at the Prude Guest Ranch in Fort Davis, Texas gives me some attention. She was 100% sweetheart.

BIG view - Star Mountain (right) in the Davis Mountains of southwest Texas on the morning I was heading home. The clouds were great.

Len, it sounds like a great topic.

Unfortunately I'm going on holiday in a few days, and won't be back until the 14th. So, just to be safe, I'll be posting exhibits only.

Excellent! Now we're starting to have a selection.

Remember there's only about a day and a half until the Challenge closes tomorrow night.

Thanks for the entries so far.

A small hole in the ground. Falling rocks do do damage.

Meteor Crater outside Winslow, AZ. Amazing how a speeding rock can move so much dirt in a short period of time. The impact must have been something to see.

My first attempt at a handheld pano.
