Print from camera?

Do any of you print directly from your camera?

My T8i allows for it, but I'm a little nervous about messing up the Wi-fi settings for my phone or tablet.

If I'm reading this right, you set up a Wi-fi connection to your printer first in order for the camera and printer to talk to each other.

It's kind of neat. If it works, you can print one picture, or a whole range of pictures, or crop the picture in camera and only print a cropped portion of your picture.

I don't because I shoot raw and post process everything. You are the first person I have heard of that is doing this.

The general consensus was that this facility was not needed on cameras and should be removed, perhaps things are changing now that more people are getting into photography via the camera phone route.

Ray,

I read through the manual quickly, but if I remember correctly, it said that you can't print raw and you can't print movies (obviously).

Yeah, raw files have to be processed into an image first. I've had very little success with WiFi on my T8i. It behaves really weirdly, at least with the Canon Camera Connect app (which IMO is rather poor).

Len,

I use an app called Camera Connect and Control for my tablet, and Canon's Camera Connect for my cellphone. I like the CCC app better. I think the focus works better for one thing.

When I first set up the connection for my tablet in the wireless settings on my T8i camera, I told it to connect to a computer, rather than a smartphone, and it worked like a charm.

I think adding a printer device (I have a wireless printer) to the wireless settings in the camera will probably work just as smoothly. I was just a little nervous about possibly screwing something up.

With Canon's wireless connection to a smartphone, you spend half your time with your fingers crossed, hoping the wireless connection works. I hardly, if ever, use it anymore.

It seems like all these apps are slightly limited in what they can control on your camera, but I can still control things on my device like picture quality, white balance, exposure compensation, etc. I still physically have to set some things on my camera like Manual vs. aperture priority vs. Tv, or raising my flash, etc.

Re: Print from camera?

Actually, my only interest in phone-camera connectivity would be location services since the camera has no GPS. But I never got that to work with the Canon app. IIRC, it required a manual WiFi connection from the phone to the camera. I was hoping I could just pair the camera to my phone via Bluetooth, so it would join up when powered on and automatically geostamp the EXIF data as I shot images. But I never got that working, so I moved on.
