Show Your Snaps...July 25, 2022

As Digramme is currently on holiday, I am hosting the next couple of threads.

This is the weekly Show Your Snaps thread where we invite you to show your own snapshots or even choice pictures. I'll be sure to comment about your photos, if you choose to share.

When you are posting your own images please submit them as a reply to this post. Otherwise your pictures may be overlooked. You might also consider describing your pictures in the subject title. See my own photos for this week as a reply.

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each other and it's fun to share too. Thanks everyone for your participation.

This is open to all camera systems and skill levels.

Examples will follow shortly.

"Japanese Crane"

"Swooping Swifts"

"Pondfly"

"Musical Note"

"Woodland Fairy"

Hope you enjoy!

Looks like a fun place to visit.  Adults and children alike should find it quite entertaining.

Ooops!

It's actually called Standon House, NOT Stanmer House.

Stanmer is a village in Brighton.

Out this afternoon, looking for some harsh light. I found it! When I got home it was 100F (38C) in the shade of my carport, Yuck...

Local reservoir that’s now refilling after being drained late last year.

A snowy egret was hunting, wading up and down the far side of the bayou. Not really close enough for my lens / camera, but here it is. Don't look too close, this image has been pushed and shoved.

That's cool.

Why were you looking for harsh light?

I briefly visited a reservoir on Sunday. It was very low, apparently the lowest it's been in 10 years. A bloke (who lent me his telescope) birdwatching there, said that the dam further up has a flaw, so they had to lower the water level to repair it.

Using the aforementioned scope, I watched nesting terns in rafts (the box-like thing you see in the photo).

I wasn't literally lookingfor it. My comment was just an attempt at humor, considering the inevitability of harsh light on a summer day.

Re: River Breamish. Northumberland.

Wonderful photos as normal.

I'm surprised you managed to get such a close-up of the dragonfly with a 70-300mm. Did you crop any?

Only in the last few months have I begun to really understand the importance of light.

As such, I've only recently begun to dislike harsh summer sun for photographic reasons.

Re: River Breamish. Northumberland.

Hi Jethro B, Thank You.

I cropped that photo to 3735 x 2490, still enough to go into my 12 x 8 inch photo books at 100%. Some of the earlier Tamron 70-300mm were advertised as Macro, mine wasn't but never the less it gets me close enough and has the reach (300mm) to get me close to those types of critters that I can struggle getting anywhere near with my 90mm Macro lens.

Re: River Breamish. Northumberland.

Do you print your photos yourself?

I just looked at one (online) place, and a 12x8 print was £1.19 + postage. Seems awful expensive.

Cool groundhog photos Steve.

My older Sister was just away studying in USA, I wonder if she saw any of these. Are they common?
