Used x-E3

Hi,

I am looking to get a Used E3 for my sister within the next couple of weeks. She will be visiting me in Denmark, and I convinced her not to bring any Canon body with her because we will be traveling as light as possible through Spain and Portugal for a couple of weeks by the end of August.

I do not have much money, hence, she will get herself a 27mm (also used in the US), and I will get her a body and share with her my other two cheap lenses (which have proven themselves very well in the last two months). I have seen a couple of Xe3 on fair prices in Denmark lately in dba (used website), and I was thinking, is there anything I should ask or try out when I get it? what about this extra flash thing? is it a must?

For me not, still in the box and I guess that goes for many

Great choice.. X-E3 is a fantastic little camera. Got mine for about $450 in mint shape. The little x8 flash came in the box, but I never had a use for it, don't think I even tested it, and so gave it away to my assistant.

I don't use any hand grips or thumb grips, but I did buy, and find useful a soft shutter release button.

Happy shooting

I will second what Oscar said, a soft shutter release helped to rotate my wrist just enough to make the grip more comfortable.  However, I found a leather half case to improve the grip to be a great help.  These are relatively cheap, but getting harder to find.  I have the accessory flash.  It is great as a fill light, but I have not really used it other than testing.  With today's high ISO, flash is not as important as it used to be.  Great little travel camera.  Hope she enjoys it.

X-E3 would be a great choice.  I don't know what the market in Denmark is like for used cameras.  In the US, used X-E3s are running around $500.00 if you can find one.  If you have trouble finding an E3 at a good price, also consider the E2/E2s. It is also a fine little camera.

I have an E-1, E-2s and E-3. The E-1 is slower than the rest, but takes great photos. The performance of the E-2s is pretty close to the E-3.

Thanks for the input.

I have seen two or three, two of them under 4000 shots, costing around 3500 danish kr, which would easily be about 450 to 500 dollars (or euros).  They seem to be in mint condition, but I haven't gotten an answer if they have or not the small flash thing. I have seen some E2S, but I was not sure if it was good enough...

Thanks for the response too.

I would hope I could find a half leather case, but those are slightly difficult over here since not everything from Amazon makes it to Denmark. I haven't used a flash in years, since I used Canon, I guess it is because of the ISO too, and I have never really understood them enough...

Finally got one....

Ended up being 400 dollars equivalent (in danish krones). But you are right, somehow it got difficult to get one...

Looks very good. I am pretty sure it will make my sister happy, and probably convince her to switch from canon...

Without wishing to start a debate about this - I had a soft shutter on the X-E3 and over time it affected the sensitivity of the shutter button. While I'm sure many don't experience this problem, it's a known issue and something to be aware of.

Ohh, I hope it is not the case in this one. I did not know about that issue.

Is she going to use it with an add-on soft button? I would start with just the bare button as is

I will tell her not to get the button... she was ordering that with the 27mm. Does that ruin the button on the camera? Because I use the x-t20 with that add-on thing?

It's probably fine (and my X-E3 is still completely usable - just needs a slightly firmer approach to the shutter!) but I personally don't think there is sufficient benefit from using a soft shutter to justify the risk in the long term.
