Show Your Snaps...July 18, 2022

As Digramme is currently on holiday, I am hosting the next few threads.

This is the weekly Show Your Snaps thread where we invite you to show your own snapshots or even choice pictures. I'll be sure to comment about your photos, if you choose to share.

When you are posting your own images please submit them as a reply to this post. Otherwise your pictures may be overlooked. You might also consider describing your pictures in the subject title. See my own photos for this week as a reply.

Remember it's all about the enjoyment of taking pictures regardless of what we have. We can learn from each other and it's fun to share too. Thanks everyone for your participation.

This is open to all camera systems and skill levels.

Examples will follow shortly.

Widewater Lagoon
1

Yesterday at sunset I went with family to a place called "Widewater Lagoon".

A flower that looks very similar to Cow Parsley, I'm not sure what it actually is.

A view of the lagoon at sunset

Houses across the lagoon

A HDR of the lagoon

Cool hummingbird Steve.

Unfortunately we don't have hummers here in the UK.

Thanks.

I can't remember if it's also a HDR, and I was wondering if I had overdone it.

Back from the Marina.

Hi all,

A few days spent at a Marina.

Re: Back from the Marina.

Beautiful mocha123. I love the swan (and the cygnets) and the swallows.

The last few days have been very hot indeed. All throughout Tuesday night it was above 20C. Fortunately, yesterday evening it rained, and it feels a fair bit cooler today, around 20C or so.

There is always something to shoot/snap, you just have to know how to do it and have the right gear.

Re: Back from the Marina.

Hi Jethro B, Thank You.

For the time I was there it was so hot you couldn't comfortably walk about during the day, I had to wait till evening to get most of my photos.

Yes, several disc hernias. Can’t even touch my camera.

Re: Show Your Snaps...July 18, 2022

Moon this morning at f/5.6 and 1/30th ss.

I gathered way too much light. It was actually quite dark outside. I have to remember to spot meter from now on.

Cool. You're quite an early bird.

I try to use spot-metering, but more often than not I forget to.

Jethro,

Yeah. Did you see the ISO on that picture?

The camera was desperately trying to brighten up that shot as much as it could. One thing about the T8i though, it handles high ISO pretty well, I think.

I should have spot metered on the moon and let the rest go to silhouette. (Which I was aiming for to begin with),

Yikes!

12800 is the highest ISO my 7D does, I think your 850D goes a step or two further.

If you shoot in any of the MASP modes (manual etc.) you could also try using exposure compensation.

Recently I was shooting the moon with my 7d on a tripod. I had the exposure perfect (like you aimed to do) in live-view. Then, when I changed to the viewfinder, the moon was completely over-exposed. Grrr.

I guess it's a feature of the older cameras. I wonder if your 850d does the same.
