Great lens combo for hiking, I do wish that I had more reach but the 50-140mm will do the trick for now.

All jpeg straight out of camera, no post.

I didn't even know it was possible to get beautiful images like these straight out of camera. Very impressive!

These came out great.  Really like the color and crispness.  Have you considered a 1.4 extender for more reach?

I thought about it, but I feel the 1.4 extender wouldn't be enough to make a tangible difference, maybe I'm wrong.

I might be enticed to get the new 150-600 for when I know there will be wildlife. I already carry a tripod with me anyway.

I can't claim to be an expert in hiking, but if the weight/size (or budget) aren't an issue, why not?  It looks like a great lens from all the initial reviews.

I'm actually looking to get the 70-300 to supplement my 100-400 and 50-140 for the shorter hiking I do. I use the 50-140 currently for shorter hikes, but also like the idea of a bit more reach while keeping reduced weight that the 70-300 would offer.  The 100-400 is usually a little too much weight/size wise.  The 70-300 feels like it would be the perfect  middle ground.  Reports/reviews seem to indicate that adding the 1.4 to the 70-300 helps with even more reach (minus any focus degradation) without too much of a quality hit.

It's nice to have options.

Excellent hiking images.

I too use the 16-55 for hiking (on a XT4). Great combo. For reach I use the newly acquired 70-300, which is proving to be an excellent lens. I also carry a 10-24 in a day sack.

Last year hiking in the English Lake District, I managed to set up the camera strap (a Peak Design Leash) by threading it through the loops on an Osprey day sack whereby the harness of the day sack took the weight. It was surprisingly comfortable and convenient.

I use the peak design clip on one of the shoulder strap. Here in Colorado I climb a few mountains and don't want any kind of weight shifting too much. It's been holding up so far and I have a very fast access to the camera (less interruptions while hiking).

Huh? Just wondering, what have you been doing with your gear? All post processing? Isn’t anything SOOC good enough at some point? I’m just wondering.

Exactly. Best product PD makes. I use the capture clip v3 all the time. Best when immediate access is needed and it is stowed safely and securely.

The last two are lovely.  You might want to replace the 50-140 with 70-300 as it's light and provides much more reach.  Bring a 1.4x TC if you want even more reach at almost no additional weight.
