Is there such thing as a rainproof cover for JUST a body? (Specifically, the X-S10)

I have the X-S10 and mostly only use the 16-80 WR and 70-300 WR. My annual vacations are very scheduled, and here in Japan, rain is a frequent factor of life, so going for "good weather" isn't exactly feasible. My last summer I ended up climbing a mountain in a typhoon, but was also before I owned a proper camera so my "waterproof" phone was an assumedly-safe option. Now that I have my X-S10, I can't be quite so carefree.

Is there such a thing as a rain cover that goes around the body and ends at the lens mount, effectively adding weather resistance to just the body without putting anything in front of/over the lens? A quick google shows me "waterproof" covers that don't actually cover the entire camera, bags designed to allow the camera to be used underwater, or what amount to glorified shower caps. I wouldn't be surprised if what I'm asking for didn't exist, since it would somewhat nullify the upsell of WR bodies (my next camera will definitely be WR), but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

Why?? The "R" in WR is for resistant not proof so a rain cover that includes the lens is a good thing. You should think of the body/lens combo as a single functional unit and protect it as such. From an engineering perspective trying to protect one part while not protecting the other is a bad approach for a number of reasons.

Agreed.  Have you ever noticed the play when jiggling some lens/body combinations?  Water can get into the lens/body mount interface as well as in other parts of the lens.

I always have microfiber cloths to wipe down my camera if it gets covered with mist.

I also always carry some compact OptechPro/USA disposable rain covers with a draw string to cinch around the lens barrel.  They have a cutout for the EVF that requires being able to remove the EVF eye cup --- some Fujifilm bodies don't have removable eye cups

Ultimately I don't rely on WR seals on lens/body to keep water from getting into my camera, especially if I'm in a downpour, like afternoon monsoon rains.  I also got a set of Think Tank Photo Camera Rain Covers for those situations.

You don't find those gaps between WR lenses and bodies unless something is damaged or the mount screws are louse and if they are, even in dry conditions a disaster is pending.

In the case of a WR lens and a non WR body, it is advisable to use a body and lens cover as you want a reliable seal and some space between the point the cover attaches to the lens and the lens mount just in case there is a bit of seepage.  I know rain covers can get in the way yet one must take appropriate perceptions when using gear not designed to be out in the elements.

I use a ziplock bag.  Cut a round hole on a corner the size of your lens.  I hold the camera and lens inside the ziplock. My hand goes through the ziplock to hold the camera  with the lens sticking out the hole.   It is best if you use a prime lens but small zoom is ok as well.  The only thing is you will need to view through the bag on the back screen.

My thought was to have fewer layers between the lens and the image while also protecting the body itself. I wasn't necessarily bent on the idea of a "shower cap" for the body that excluded the lens, my idea was more something that covered the body but didn't have an additional element in front of the lens.

Either way, Weather Resistance is probably the next major upgrade I'll be looking at in a body.

Peak design shell camera cover - small fits perfect, is great quality and if you fold the lens cover part back, you can sort of achieve what you are looking for.

Oh, my ziplock bag has this round hole so the lens can stick out.  Just the body in the bag.  So, no additional element in front of the lens.  Besides how often do you need it?

A lot of the rain sleeve solutions don't cover the front of the lens. They cover the lens barrel and have cinch to tighten around near the end of the barrel, close to the lens hood.

Correct and you want that distance from the mount incase of a leak and they can dribble a little in a downpour.

Saran Wrap/plastic wrap.

Works well, clings to the camera and you can still operate buttons. Use & throw away.
