Firmware Notice: EOS M50 Mark II: Firmware Version 1.0.3
7

This was from last month. One of my cameras was a 1.0.0 and the other was a 1.0.1. There was a 1.0.1 firmware update for my 1.0.0 but I never did it because it was a fix for something that didn't concern me . The 1.0.3 update was also a fix for something i don't use but I figured I'd do both cameras anyway -- maybe there was something good they weren't telling me about that is a plus. A cool surprise.  Most of the fixes concern video issues I believe, with which I have no interest. I didn't  notice anything different-no cool  surprise. so that's that.

Re: Firmware Version 1.0.4

After doing a search for 1.0.4 it appears it was a firmware listed at the Canon SoutheastAsia site. EOS M2 Firmware Update, Version 1.0.4 [Windows]

Last Updated : 29-Jan-2020
Issue Number : 0400541002

Detail

Firmware Version 1.0.4 incorporates the following fix:

1. Corrects a PTP communications vulnerability.
2. Corrects a vulnerability related to firmware update.

Firmware Version 1.0.4 is for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.3. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.4, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

then this for a rebelt4i from 2015. otherwise it appears the last firmware for the m50mkii from canon usa is 1.0.3. Maybe your camera is from S.E. Asia.

Firmware update v1.0.4 for the EOS Rebel T4i.

    Affected lenses: EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM / EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
  2.
    • The camera may freeze in rare instances if you try to shoot with a lens cap attached or meter a subject in low contrast in Live View (or Movie) shooting.
    • Fine focus adjustment may not be possible in Remote Live View on the EOS Utility software.
  3. Fixes a phenomenon in which some SD card products are not recognized by the camera.
  4. Corrects some misspellings displayed on the menu screen.

Firmware Version 1.0.4 is for cameras with firmware Version 1.0.1 or earlier. If the cameraÓ³ firmware is already Version 1.0.4, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Re: Firmware Version 1.0.4

EOS M2 is an old M camera from around 2013. (The second mirrorless from Canon.)

And my M50 II is a European model.

Re: Firmware Version 1.0.4

Canon has released a 1.0.4 firmware version over the years for more than a half dozen different models. None for the m50/2 that I could find. It's a real mystery if you  bought the camera from Canon or an authorized  Canon dealer. Not such a mystery if you did not.

That's what I am saying. I can not find it anywhere.

Yes. I bought it from an authorized Canon dealer.

Same with 5D IV. Some have been shipped with 1.3.4 that doesn't exist to download https://www.reddit.com/r/CanonCamera/comments/vkqtgm/canon_5d_mark_iv_firmware_134/

Re: Firmware Notice: EOS M50 Mark II: Firmware Version 1.0.3

I can't update the firmware on my M50 Mark2 past 1.0.1 I tried over and over and done it sequentially and non-sequentially (1.0.2 to 1.0.3 or 1.0.1 to 1.1.0) with putting the firmware file on an SD card and I always get this error message:

"Firmware Update Program"

"Update file cannot be found. Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again."

Has anybody else had this problem? Do I HAVE to update the firmware?

I also tried to do it through the Canon Mac Utility and no dice either. I get this message:

"The selected file is not the appropriate updater for this camera."

No, you don't have to update your firmware. It usually brings bug fix or security issues. It means probably you will not notice anything different.

That being said, the numbers of the firmware you listed (1.1.0) are for M50 (original). And I updated my M50 (original) from firmware 1.0.0 right to 1.1.0 without any issues.

Firmware from M50 II is incompatible with M50 (original). Please double check the camera model you are downloading firmware.

Update. ----The M50/2 camera I bought from canon with the 1.0.4 firmware version works fine although the menu is not exactly the same as my 1.0.3 cameras. Today was the first  day I tried to pair this camera  up with the blue tooth  remote and discovered it was no go because the menu item under drive mode for 2 sec self timer which is coupled with the "remote" item  is different. the remote item does not exist in this camera with the 1.0.4 firmware. They said  that firmware  version is bogus, sent me a label, and it's in a box to the factory right now. That is all I know.

My best understanding is due to hardware revisions Canon sometimes has slightly different firmware variations. Perhaps its also a region thing? Not everyone will get the 1.0.4 because its not really a "fix", more of a "its different than 1.0.3". I seen stuff like this all the time browsing Canon Camera hacking forums

I can live with that as long as it doesn't exclude menu items which are essential for certain camera functions.
