Minolta XG to Sony e-mount Adapter

Having a few interesting Minolta XG lenses left over from the previous millennium at my disposal, I was wondering if anyone knew of an adapter to use them with my A7ii. I can't find anything except A mount.

Thanks in advance!!

Absolutely tons of them on ebay .

The lens are Minolta SR mount , but most people call the MD mount (incorrectly), MD lens were just the final type of meter coupled after the MC lenses , MC just meant meter coupled .

A cheep one is this type;

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304435934219?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=x4GXVsrxTvK&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=g-gdd1HhSPK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

If your into architecture photography , you might like to convert it to a shift lens ; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133846482913?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=G2Ng7PBcQhW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=g-gdd1HhSPK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

But it does depend on lens coverage to if it works or not .

I have one I used on APSC sensors , but I haven't tried it on my a7Riv yet . I plan on trying it this week while I'm off work .

I've just bought a Canon 24mm tilt shift L lens , so I'll compare that with my Minolta 24mm lens .

IIRC , tilt adapters are available to , but when I looked I couldn't find a combined tilt/shift adapter , despite some claiming to be !

Re: Minolta XG to Sony e-mount Adapter

Thank you for the information. I foolishly thought that, if it was engraved into the lens, then that was the mount name. Meanwhile, I'm having great fun with these 'legacy' lenses on my A7ii. The 'shift' option looks particularly appealing. Thanks again!!

If your after the shift adapter, have a look on Amazon.

I'm sure I only paid about £65 for mine , rather than the £160 of this one .

I don't get to try the Canon 24mm shift and Minolta 24mm on the adapter on the a7Riv as the day I intended going to Malham Cove it was raining all day .

So I've still to find the coverage of the Minolta .

You got fixed up with an adapter then ?

After a lot of research the K&F adapter appeared to be well liked by all. I read several reports of cheaper adapters being a tiny bit loose and not keeping the adapted lens planar to the sensor.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M7UJQMJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought this K&F and I am quite pleased with it. It has a quality feel to it and does what it is supposed to do.  After playing with my old Minotla SR mount lenses I got bored with them and haven't used the adapter since.  Even my 58mm F/1.2 lens has pretty limited purpose despite its huge aperture.  $32 is pretty cheap for quality camera gear and experimenting can be fun.

Re: Minolta XG to Sony e-mount Adapter

Just for the record, I ended up with this:

Urth Lens Mount Adapter: Compatible with Minolta Rokkor (SR/MD/MC) Lens to Sony E Camera Body : Amazon.ca: Electronics

Mainly because of the ability to adjust the aperture.

Thanks to all who responded.

Thanks for letting us know what you ended up with.

I don't quite understand this:

With the aperture ring on the lens you should be able to adjust the aperture with any adapter??? Am I missing something... not understanding correctly?

Re: Minolta XG to Sony e-mount Adapter

It will adjust aperture manually over a set of stops marked from from 0 to 7. This moves a screw which engages with the lens' aperture control paddle. Nice thing is: you get to preview the depth of field. Hope this helps!

Have you received it yet ?

I ask as that's how the Minolta/ Sony A mount adapter works , as those lenses don't have an aperture ring .

All Minolta SR ( MD ) lenses have an aperture ring on the lens , so there is no need for one on the adapter body .

I've never seen one with one either.

When you set the aperture on the lens when mounted on an adapter, it will stop down as you do it , as you describe .

Can you provide a link to the item you've bought?

It sounds like you've got the wrong adapter .

Please look at the links provided in my original reply to you .
