Got my X-H2s today!
6

So I got my X-H2s today and I should preface this with noting I really like the controls of the X-T4 and much prefer those over more traditional modern control schemes.

With the camera I knew the controls would take some getting used to so, no real comment on their layout at this point.  However, my only real gripe is that the shutter button is insanely sensitive and snaps a shot way too easily (that’s going to take some getting used to).

I do like that they put an AF-On, Eye / Face AF button, and that meant I only had to change the button on the front to turn on subject AF.

I haven’t been able to do much more than play with it around the house, but somethings are very obvious with this body.  The IBIS is crazy good (yes you notice the difference between this and X-T4)… Also, the AF truly is as sticky and fast as many reviewers have been saying.

I do kind of wish they stuck with the X-T design, but the camera is still extremely impressive for its performance.  I was honestly thinking about an R6 or used A9 before this launched and now I can stay 100% in the Fuji family.

a very light touch shutter button can be an advantage, but it will need getting used to.

enjoy the camera and keep us posted

If the camera weren't so fast, I probably would not be willing to endure the change myself, but it is crazy fast and a lot of fun to shoot with because of that.  The performance is everything I wanted to see in the X-T4 honestly.

All these gushing reviews are feeding my GAS too but I'm trying to cool myself down and keep telling myself that I should really wait for an X-T5 before making any purchasing decisions on a new camera body!

That will probably be the smarter time to upgrade as we will know better all the options and can make a choice that fits best to our individual style and needs -- fastest, or traditional controls, high-res and PASM controls, etc etc.

My problem with that was the idea that they’re going with the higher resolution sensor and it might not be stacked.  If it isn’t a stacked sensor, then you will likely lose the AF speed benefits and that really wouldn’t work for me.

Re: Got my X-H2s today!

One more note, I have the smallrig grip for the X-T4 and the X-H1 is just so much more comfortable to hold than the X-T4 with the 3rd party grip.  Not sure if the Fuji option is better, but if it is then it is worth the money.

From what I understand it will still be faster than the Trans-IV sensor and processor platform that is matched to it, so it will probably deliver some of the AF benefits still -- but not all.

Exactly how much, that remains to be seen!

Yes and that's my issue, how much of the benefit do we get from that, without the stacked sensor.  This thing is fast and I'm very pleased with how well it is performing at the moment.

Aren’t stacked sensors more about fast sensor readouts than autofocus speed?

With the new generation of Expeed processor + new autofocus algorithm, the upcoming XT5 should be able to show a much faster autofocus than previous XTs.

Very few Sonys and Canons are equiped with stacked sensors and they exhibit top-notch autofocus….

Fast readout helps with fast object-detect AF and fast tracking.

Even when not shooting at 40fps.

It’s going to be a combination of processor, programming and sensor speed - if the subject is moving you will want to get all that focus data from the sensor to the processor quickly

There’s a difference between decent tracking and the level of tracking included with their stacked sensors based bodies.
The Canon R5 and R3 are stacked, the Sony A9, A9 II, and A1 are all stacked as well.  The AF has 3.5x the speed in those bodies, over their un stacked enthusiast designs.  Speed itself isn’t enough, but it certainly allows you to make up for some mistakes.

If you look for A9 vs A3 on YouTube, you will somebody explaining the advantages of the sensor.

Re: Got my X-H2s today!

So,what is the point of more megapixels with less than leading class autofocus.  The problem I have is that there are too numerous reviews of the X-H2s and to my knowledge none of them have claimed equivalence or superiority to Canon or Sony even in their non-stacked sensor cameras.  I own more Fuji cameras and lenses than I do Sony, and . My favorite of the several I own is the XT4.  What is not said speaks volumes to me.

Glad you didn't get the A9

As a A9 shooter for the past 3 years, I know it's a good camera as far as birding is concerned, the first with ultra fast AFC and stacked sensor but the ergo is nothing to be desired

The grip gives me cramps after 1 hour of shooting, it's just too small and has no room for the fingers to grab on to, nor the index to rest

When you don't enjoy holding the camera then it has to  go in spite of its other virtues

I held the A1 and didn't feel any improvements so have to look elsewhere

Z9 at first but after waiting for 6 months I gave up, besides the whole system costs much more

Then comes Fuji whose body + 150-600mm  still cost less than Z9 or A1

Easy decision for me

The Canon R3 has a stacked sensor. The Sony ZV1 is not stacked, or it would have been extremely cheap for a stacked APS-C sensor!

My understanding is the R3 focuses better and faster than the R5, but it is hard to know if that is a generational issue, or the stacked sensor.
