What's this fly doing?

Hi!

I saw a few flies that appeared to be eating some unrecognizable disgusting mass. Anyone know what it is or what the fly is doing? Thanks!

Nice image, my bet is on the fly being a hoarder. For food that is.

Thanks! It did appear to be eating; I just had no idea what kind of "food" that thing is.

It looks like it is eating some kind of feces, maybe from an insect or caterpillar.  They have to liquefy there food first by disgorging some digestive juice and then they can suck it up.

Some flies have teeth or a piercing mouth part to break the skin to let blood out.

You got a good photo at lest.
