I don't know what you see as you are out and about.  When I am I see 5 to 10 times more 150-600 than 500mm f4 and 600mm f4.  Then know what they are doing.

One plenty of enthusiasts have purchased there lovely 150-600 they will offer some primes and I expect they will be light weight ones that might be attractive to you.

I already have the reality, thanks to Fringer and Sigma, I don't need to hope or dream, I was just speculating why Fuji launch a camera like the X-H2S without the native ecosystem (available or announced) being extended to fully exploit it's capabilities.

My original point was they (Fuji) have some options to extend that ecosystem, and they haven't taken them....MichealADawson makes a good point further down in the discussion on the commercial drivers....perhaps Fuji don't want to get in a contest with the big boys in the pro market when the enthusiast market is where they feel the $$$'s are.

Hi Morris,

You seem quite taken with the new 150-600, do you intend to get one, and what would you do with the Nikon 500PF if you did?

So, please please please, go talk to to those nice, helpful people at Fringer. Do a deal to license the manufacturer of their excellent EF and Nikon F adapters. Work with them to make WR versions, shouldn't be too difficult, just a rubber gasket on the non-pro EF and F versions (although the EF Pro with it's physical aperture ring possibly plays better to your brand values, so may be do that one too).

Whatever customers they might gain with this approach the risk to Fuji is that they drop lens revenue when they have established lens range.

I can't speak for others but in my case my 'investment' in Fuji lenses is about three times the value of the bodies.

The only occasions I can recall of manufactuers support third party lenses have been when building a new system and need the traction in gaining a lens range - so that would be Micro 4/3, L mount, and Sony E. And even with Micro 4/3 I think Pansonic and Olympus were more in competition rather than being complementary at times.

For decades the sports market has been dominated by Canon (by far) and then Nikon. It took about 10 years for Sony to mingle in between them, and then it must have cost them an arm and a leg. Sony had to put all their muscle and leverage and money to make some headway with a sports camera and lens stable.

Quite simply, I think the X system, which is 10 years old, is not competing in the sports market. There are other areas where a fast pro APSC camera like the XH2S can shine, like wildlife action. For the pros, there are simply better systems for sports out there. Fuji could still make a 400 f/4 or 500 f/4 in the future, but I doubt it.

No, I'm very happy with the 500 PF, a superb light weight prime.

I agree though Fuji is still building there lineup and at the same time modernizing some of there popular old lenses.  I think pride is getting in the way of moving forward.

Hi Palo,

Excellent observation! Most of the time, a sports photographer can role their gear into a venue. A wildlife photographer usually hast to carry their gear across all sorts of terrain.  This make weight much more important to the wildlife photographer.

canon and nikon lawyers would have a field day if such a product were to exist from fuji, as it would be viewed as highly uncompetitive. canon at least, don't know about nikon, never licensed their lens protocols to any third party lens manufacturers, just to a select few cinema camera companies.

and how would an adapter from fuji to canon ef be different than the fringer one? except weather sealing, which fringer could add in a future version. fuji opened their protocols to whoever wants to use them so it's just a matter of time before fringer release an updated firmware with some fixes to bring their protocols in line with fuji's. the ef side of the adapter would still be reverse engineered

Fringer has already worked with Fuji, at least there site states so. Using the Fringer adapter it feels like I'm using native Fuji glass with both Nikon and Canon lenses. I do wish the adapters were weather sealed.

Morris

I guess I have really bad luck for the Fringer adapter I purchased a few months ago was bad.  The adapter caused the EVF to reset/flicker on and off.  That freaked me out and did not liked that experience at all and I got scared and afraid that devices like that could blow up or ruin my camera therefore I returned it.

Also the adapter would not AF my Nikon 70-200 F4 properly and the AF would start auto focusing by itself and out of wack.  Call me a chicken but I don’t trust those things now 😬

So yeah I prefer native lenses.

Thanks Morris, I think the 500PF might be where I end up, once I've recovered from buying the X-H2S...and the CFe cards...

Ya, it's an expensive hobby and/or tools for a busyness.  I've have two 128-GB CFe type B cards and a reader as left overs from a project done with a Z9.

I would think that many Fuji users are completely satisfied with what Fuji is offering.
