R7 Pictures
11

Picked up my R7 last Monday and I took it out once to bird and another time at Mosport.

I'm coming from 7D II, which I've been using for almost 8yrs. My main use is for birding with the 400mm f5.6 L lens. So far so good, still trying to figure out some of the features that comes with mirrorless cameras. What I like are the speed, better ISO and the 4k video. For my use case scenario, I prefer a aps-c sensor for the reach. For the cost of almost as much as I paid for my 7D II, it's great bang for your buck. Here are some pictures taken.

Re: R7 Pictures

Very nice!  It must take some time adjusting too.  I also have the 7DII.  When I ever get mine, I will also be using it for birds.  I bought the RF 100-400 and have the EOS 100-400 II.  Will see how it goes.  If I really love it, I could sell my 7DII and lens to help buy the 100-500, but I don't see that in the near future.

Enjoy!

Nice shots. Where are you located? The great crested grebe looks a little different from the ones I am familiar with. Perhaps it just the PP?

Thank you.   Hopefully your wait wouldn't be long.

Lol... These are Red-necked Grebes.   They come during spring and stay until fall.  Location is Ontario, Canada.

I believe great crested Grebes are only seen in Europe.

Maybe I should have mentioned my workflow..  Shot in Raw, processes through Lightroom and Photoshop.  Used denoise when need be, like the one shot at iso 2500 and 2000.  If I can get great results at iso 4000 or 6400 using denoise it would be far better than my 7DII.

Re: R7 Pictures

How do you find the R7 IBIS with the 400mm f/5.6? Does it help much to stabilize a long lens that doesn't have IS?

It works well with the 400 f4.5 lens.  I was using it with the Tamron 70 to 300 lens at motorsport and I find that the sharpness is a tad soft, maybe I'm out of practice panning.

With the IBIS, I can't really comment since I have not tested it much with BIF.  Having been using 7d and 7d 2 which doesn't have IBIS, I'm used too not having it so can't really say if it will help.  The Grebe pictures were taken on a tripod because I was trying to get as low as possible and  using the flip screen.  The flip screen is very convenient and its already one of my favourite feature.
