Fantastic. The Olympus updating method is ridiculously complicated and fraught with potential problems. Thank you very much!

Yeah. We should start some kind of online petition/head-count and demand that the files are made available for download.

Re: How to update the OM-1 via an update file on the SD card

Good afternoon.

Can i ask a stupid question?

How can i unbrick OM-1 after unsuccessful firmware upgrade attempt?

I downloaded OM Workspace. And started upgrade from 1.1 up to 1.3. And at moment of installation firmware in OM-1, it was unplugged. It was stupid thing, i know.

Now, OM-1 turns on in a brick. It does not reacting to anything.

May be there is something, how i can revive it?

Thank you.

First, my sympathies :]

If the camera is truly dead, I guess it won't let you fix the firmware either, and only a repair by OM Digital Solutions can revive it. But maybe deep inside there's still a little life in it..? Have you tried to follow the instructions that have been posted on Github? The link is in the opening post of this topic.

That's great to hear! Is your camera OK now, does everything work well again?

Everything fine. Fw 1.3 is much better then 1.1.

Worked for me too , I think I had to start the camera pushing the menu Botton , and ok button. Glad you got yours back. Years ago my 300 f4 bricked had to send it to Olympus they flashed and cleaned the lens for free. Great service.

Bricked camera REVIVED using card method!

Wonderful!  I think this is the first confirmation here in the forum that a user can un-brick his own Oly/OMDS camera by doing a card-based firmware upgrade.

Fallback for lens upgrades?

Excellent indeed! If this can be repeated we don't have to fear the lens FW upgrades either. If they brick the camera we can just install the camera FW again.

Or is my thinking wrong?

iKenndac, you are my hero! 🥰😉

Re: Bricked camera REVIVED using card method!

Does anybody know if a downgrade from OM1 firmware 1.3 to 1.2 will also work with the SD card method?

Some OM1 owners reported 1.2 is better than 1.3 regarding C-AF, especially in case of subjects not moving

I know this thread is getting pretty ancient, but I've been having trouble with updating my OM-1 to v1.2 (OM workspace keeps saying my camera isn't recognized, although I can manage pics with no problem), and would like to try the SD card method.

Unfortunately, the link you provided for the OM-1 v1.2 firmware on GitHub won't open for me... any tips?

Thanks,

Note, I haven't done this with the OM-1, but I did verify the file is there:

  • Download: http://dl01.olympus-imaging.com/OLYMPUS_MASTER/FIRMWARES/0001/1430/OLY_E_143_1200_0000_0000.BIN
  • Use a 32GB card or smaller (32GB and smaller uses VFAT partition, while 64GB and larger uses exFat, and at least in previous cameras, the load firmware code might have only supported VFAT cards.
  • Create a folder called "DCOLYMP" on your SD card.
  • Copy and rename the downloaded file to E1439999.BIN and put it inside this folder.
  • Make sure your batteries are fully charged before starting this.
  • The whole process will take a about 1-2 minutes.
  • Make sure your camera is turned off. Now insert the SD Card with the firmware file.
  • On my E-m1 mark II, the firmware SD card must be in the top slot.
  • Start the camera while pushing the "OK" button.
  • The screen will be black and the orange front LED will turn on.
  • DO NOT TURN THE CAMERA OFF WHILE THE LED IS SOLIDLY ON.
  • Wait until it blinks rapidly. This means the process is finished. You can now restart the camera like you would do normally.
  • You may want to remove the "DCOLYMP" folder from your SD card, so you don't flash a new firmware by accident.

Can anybody confirm that a 64GB card (or >32GB) does not work in the OM-1?

My smallest card is 64 GB and I want to follow these instructions here precisely. If needed I go and Buy a 32GB card.

iKenndac, does not mention this restriction on his GitHub.

Is this restriction of 32GB card or smaller only needed for older cameras?

Thanks in advance.

I just verified that both the OM-1 and E-m5 mark III could load their respective firmwares (1.4 and 1.7) on a 128GB UHS-II Delkin V90 card.

I haven't tried it, but I think in the past, I did see the E-m1 mark II did not load the firmware.

And I just updated my FW to 1.4 with a 64GB card thanks to you and iKenndac without any issue.

Many Thanks!!

Where is there access to the FW files without using Workspace? Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, neither of those links have the most recent FW for anything other than the OM1.
