How do I get my d610 to not autofocus with 35 70 2.8 af?

There is no af/m switch on the lens. I've switched the body to manual. It still autofocuses. Any idea how to fix this?

As a work-around, have you tried back button auto focus? I don't know the D610, but I think it automatically decouples the shutter release from focusing duties when you assign "AF-ON" to the AE-L/AF-L button.

If you've moved the switch next to the lens mount to the "M" position, it should disengage the "in body" focus motor from the lens, and allow manual focusing. If it isn't disengaging, then something is broken on the camera body.
